Anyone seen an issue where an HR20-700 seems to slow down. HD playback of recorded shows get jerky/audio skipping and some video pauses.

Then a reset of the receiver, fixes it for a while?

I started having this issue for about 2 weeks now. Just wondering if there is any possible causes for this?

At first first I thought it could be the hard drive, but when I reboot the program plays back fine.

This is an Hr20-700 with 0x312 software.

This could be early signs of a hard drive failure. As a test, you could try using an external eSATA drive to bypass your DVR's internal drive.

"About two weeks" is when that firmware was uploaded. I can't say mine has reached the point where it needs rebooting, but it has seemed a little rough lately.

I looked at the Smart report and it didn't seem like anything was too bad. There are some CRC errors, but that doesn't seem to have gone up from when I looked at it a few months ago. I reseated my cable and checked connections...

Here's a link to the SMART attributes: http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=156951&page=2

at the bottom.

I've run a few scans and no hard drive errors.

I'm using an external drive.

Both my HR20-700's are doing this. It started after the last national release.

I've been having a similar issue with my HR20-100, but it's been happening for a long time, and recently seems to be getting worse and/or more frequent. What happens is the guide, menus, etc seem to slow down and appear not to react according to the screen, but if you keep pushing buttons "blindly" it does perform the function that should be selected on the screen. So, for example, I'll hit menu, the menu will come up, I push the page down once, wait a good 30 seconds, then hit select, it goes to the setup menu. If I don't wait, it will be as if I hadn't pushed the down arrow. If I go thru the recorded shows list and get it to start playing, the recordings play fine. Unplugging, rbr, or a slow blind drill thru the menus to a menu reset all work to fix the issue; it does always come back, at totally random times. It's gotten to the point where we will restart it if the menus show any kind of hesitation, because that's usually a sign that the full slowdown is imminent. Please tell me I'm not insane and that I'm not the only one who's had this kind of issue.

What external drive are you using?

If you disconnect the eSATA, do you still have the problem? I understand you won't have access to your recordings but if your drive fails you'll lose access to them anyway.

My receiver doesn't seem to be doing it anymore. I don't know if it was because I rebooted the receiver a bunch of times... Trying to load a CE.. or just unplugging my esata drive.. removing the drive from the MX-1, testing the drive (tested ok).. and putting everything back.. maybe it was a loose internal sata or esata connection. I guess I'll see if it comes back..

I have an Antec MX-1 with a WD Green 1TB.. Drive tested fine. Previous recordings playback fine.
