It's a pretty good deal having 3 free months of Showtime twice. That's double the Showtime.

Wasn't it 69.99x4 months last year? If so, you've gotta love that cable company type math they are using.

Edit: I see now that you get double the showtime free for three months now so it IS a deal.

Except last year you paid at least $52.99 for Choice in month 5, and didn't receive any premiums. ($69.99x4=$279.96+52.99=$332.95)

At least this year, you get an overall lower price for 5 months and the premiums for 5 months. ($59.99x5=$299.95, or $33 lower, with the added month of premiums)

Gotta love that real world math. It's like having an umbrella when someone rains on your parade.:)

I hate the NFL deal. At this point people are not interested in a premium deal. Most customers either don't care about NFL or just want choice extra.
We saw a major slump last year with this promo.

But I guess this year they are allowing regular orders to continue with choice extra. $21 rebate and 3 months movies. Plus 1 advanced receiver

Holy crap, I'm in a parade too?

Seriously, my bad for not considering the 1 month of extra programming that you get this year when I made my joke. It wasn't my intention to get you so riled up about a deal that you probably don't qualify for.

We'll see. Even if that was the promotion for the fall, it may be changed now that it may have been leaked.

I really doubt it will, these things are planned with promo material prepped for months.

While that may be the base fall promotion, DirecTv does make changes on a market by market basis. Some markets may get additional perks, while others may have some freebies scaled back. Just something to keep in mind.

This is pretty much the same deal they have run for Sunday Ticket late summer/early fall for the past few years. Totally expected. Thanks for the details though.

Look at it as a nice option to help you earn $100 referral bonuses!

You got that right. I've already got a buddy that's on Dish ready to switch with this deal and the referral bonus. I've got 2 more on cable that are really thinking about it. :)

You probably already told them this, but just a reminder. With Premier, if they want HD & DVR, they have to pay extra for that. At least for the first 5 months and then they could drop down to a lessor package that includes them. Also, if they want the NFL games in HD, they need to add SF.

Hi All

I noticed this thread is a little old but it's right on topic for me. I'm looking forward getting rid of cable and signing up for the ST offer through directv. I know the offer is not finalized but does anyone know if I'll be able to squeeze in the SF into the deal? If not, will that diminish any possibility of getting SF free next year and so on? (How do they expect us to watch football in SD?!?)

Also, what else should I expect? Would like to HD DVR in one room and basic in two other rooms. I seriously don't plan to keep the premier package after the 5 month promo is over.

Lastly, will I save money working this deal online or over the phone? I'm also trying to refer a friend for extra bonus bonus :D

Thanks

ThanksYou might want to call to see if you can get any other offers. If you order on the website, what you see is what you get. Its not likely you will get SF for free with the new offer. Next year, they probably won't offer SF free, but you can always call and ask for it.

Also, if you are a AAA member, you can get a $10/mo discount for 24 mo's. If not, you might consider joining since you can probably get it for $50/yr and still save $140. FYI, the AAA offer is in addition to the NFL ST promo.

I was thinking about waiting for the typical new customer deal to come out and trying to get that but the deal they gave me to keep ST was pretty good, so I took it. It was the free SF + $20 discount for 6 months.

actually this promotion has the DVR fee included you just need to add $10 for the HD programming. They give an instant rebate for the DVR fee when you are filling out the order form online.

I am getting ready to order this thru AAA with a refer a friend thrown in when i get home from vacation :)

Let us know how that works out.

It looks like my local phone company has thrown a twist on this offer. Looks like they are offering the Choice XTRA HD DVR package with ST for $59.99 (with bundle) for the year. I was not planning to keep the premier pkg if I signed up through D* and would switch down to the Choice HD DVR after the 5 months were over. I assume D* would not give a discounted rate if I downgraded plans.

So here's the offer and fine print from Qwest:

BEST OFFER OF THE YEAR!
NFL SUNDAY TICKETTM only on DIRECTV and DIRECTV® PLUS HD DVRTM $59.99/monthm for 1 year*

Get NFL SUNDAY TICKETTMwith your DIRECTV® PLUS HD DVRTMpackage and get 5 months FREE of HBO, Starz, Cinemax and Showtime.

*price requires qualifying home phone package.

* 200+ channels, including:
o The top music channels
o Local channels†
* HD and DVR service included
* NFL Sunday Ticket included
* Free HD DVR receiver upgrade after instant online rebate. ($199 value) Programming, DVR and HD Access fee agreement required.

DIRECTV with HD, HBO, STARZ & SHOWTIME Free for 5 Months with NFL SUNDAY TICKET $64.99
Qwest Bundle Discount: -$5.00
Monthly amount: $59.99

New customers only. Offer available when bundled with qualifying home phone package, price is higher otherwise. Includes promotional pricing on the DIRECTV® PLUS HD DVRTM package ($75.99/mo.) after two separate bill credits are applied: A $16 bill credit for 12 months after online or mail-in rebate, plus an additional $5 bill credit for 12 months when customer submits rebate online and registers account on directv.com. What is the other forum? Is there a reason people won't mention another forum's name here when they post information from that site? It would help people to determine the validity of the information and also help others find new sources of information on DirecTV.

At the very least the site deserves attribution much as dbstalk would/does when information from this site is used elsewhere.

You cannot. You can however order through the refer a friend department and then bundle into qwest once the service is active. However they might have different offers.

I'm trying to get research for my sister and brother-in-law as they are about to move out of a rental and buy their own house, so I'm wondering if this deal is still active and is it the best deal going for new customers? I tried finding it on DIRECTV's web site, but couldn't, so any information is appreciated.

They want to have at least three rooms wired for HD viewing, so they want to get an HD DVR and one HD receiver (non-DVR), unless they can get a good deal on two HD DVRs from DIRECTV.

On top of that, my mother has an owned HR20 and wants to give it to my sister. I know this would require my sister to pay for a new access card, but would this DVR be registered as owned by my sister when it is added to her account? Would the tech set it up if it's going to be there waiting for him when he brings the dish?

If this thread is out of date, I will just copy this into a new thread to ask for the current offer ...

Thanks for your responses.

The new winter promos usually come out around mid-October right around Columbus day. It will probably be the usual 4 free installs, $25 rebate per month for a year and 1 free HD, DVR or HDDVR + 1 or 2 premiums for 3 months . It's been that way the last few years so I'll bet it will be the same this year.

Drew2k,

I know you can transfer an owned unit from one person to another and unless the CSR messes up, it should stay owned. As for an installer setting it up, well you're depending on him to be nice; I don't think it's part of his job.

I forgot to add that usually through October and into early November they still will give you the "previous" promotion (NFLST and 5 months of Premier) IF YOU ASK even though the new promo is in effect. They call that "overlap" because they still want to sell NFLST. At least that's what has happened over the last few years.

Thanks Tblazer07. My sister and brother-in-law may not close before the end of October so that will control the offer they get in under more than anything ...

One other thing you can try is to call up the installer once the install is set up. Add the additional receiver onto the work order directly with the installer. You will have to pay for this install though as it is not coming as part of the new install from DirecTV. Your basically contracting with the installer to do an install for you at the same time they are there performing the DirecTV install.
