View Full Version : For those that cared about GolTV leaving DISH
GolTV has sublicenses some of their La Liga package to ESPN. ESPN plans on showing 20 or so games on ESPN2.

I wonder how many of the ESPN2 telecasts will feature Real Madrid and/or Barcelona?

So the games ESPN televises will apparently be on ESPN Deportes, not the English channels.

ESPN2 will get some matches in English
"...ESPN2 will televise select matches..."

Interesting that they didn't give a number of matches to be televised. Prediction: Real-Barca and nothing else.

My thoughts exactly.
This and the fact that ESPN has obtained Setanta's rights to the Premier League for the UK broadcasts of 46 games next season and 23 for the following three years, signals the start of the move to a soccer centric ESPN (ESPN Classic rebranded as ESPN3?)

Maybe i missed it, but did the stories say anything at all about ESPN televising EPL matches in the U.S.?

No only for the U.K for now. Fox Sports International currently has the rights for all U.S. broadcasts through this coming season and sells approx half to Setanta USA. The bidding for the next package (2010 - 2013) starts next fall. Then we'll see if ESPN is interested in U.S. rights or not. There seems to be some rumors/speculation that ESPN is wanting to start/rebrand a new channel (Classic?) as a a soccer specific channel
I see my mistake I should have put a maybe before signals in my previous post

So there is no reason that any U.S. footie fan should be excited about ESPN getting anything. . . . Best bets for 2009-2010 season still seem to be FSC/FSE for EPL, Champions League matches and GOL-TV for Spain, Germany.
What about Italy, France, Netherlands?

To me it looks like WC qualifiers/friendlies for US mens team and the 20ish LA Liga (Mostly Barca and or Real) for ESPN in the coming year.
AFAIK Serie A is locked to FSC.
As for France/Netherlands don't know of any U.S. carrier for those leagues.
Can You get ESPN deportes on the eastern arc?

No. All Latino is on Western Arc only.

Yes, but there is no Gol-TV on DISH, so the 20 or so matches on ESPN2 is better than nothing for a La Liga fix. Plus, who doesn't want to see Real Madrid fall on their face with 200 million worth of transfers.

I guess all those games I see on FSC, Setanta and the MLS DirectKick don't count...?

You're paying extra for two of those, though!
