I'm a D-Tv installer.  Some people in my area get locals and others don't.  Is there a procedure/advice I can write down and give to the customers who want to apply for the waivers to get network feeds?  Or is it just call customer service and hope for the best?

Subscribers can call Directv CSR's who will send an application to the local channels who ultimately authorize the waivers. I did that and was given Fox East/West. All of the others denied my application. I didn't push it any further, as I have locals by DBS.

I see you are from Northwest Illinois. You are probably right outside or out of the boundary for people in your area to receive Chicago's Local Channels. I believe that if a subscriber has no other way of receiving Locals that New York and Los Angeles Locals are available. I would try first to get those people you install for in the Northern Illinois area Chicago Locals first. If Not New York and L.A. should be available through Direc Tv.

You can 'push it' as far as you wish....

first time thru I got Fox E/W with no problem... all else said go fish..

30 days later I called back and said "Do NBC,ABC,CBS AGAIN, leave FOX alone..."

two weeks later ABC E/W popped on... go fish for N and C..

last week I told them to pop NBC/CBS again and leave ABC/FOX alone... no problem they said...

we'll see if anyone caves this time...

I do not live within the class "B" signal range of any network station except NBC. As such, when I first subscribed to DirecTV, they immediately activated ABC, CBS, & Fox. I needed a waiver for NBC.

DirecTV applied for the waiver and it was denied. Upon hearing of the denial I journeyed to the local NBC station, spoke directly with the station's Operations Manager and walked out with my waiver. I sent it to DirecTV and NBC was quickly activated for me.

I know that DirecTV states that they are supposed to request the waivers but, it's obvious to me that personal contact with the station(s) by the person requesting the waiver has the best chance of succeeding. It's much easier for a station to reject a form letter from a DBS provider than to turn-down the person making the request. (I must admit that a little grovelling does help). I also sent a handwritten letter of thanks to the station.
