View Full Version : Remove MPEG-2 channels from guide

Is there any way to remove the MPEG-2 channels from the guide, and from search results?

When choosing a channel to record, it would be nice to remove those extraneous channel choices, as it sometimes leads to screw-ups.

(Sorry if this is answered elsewhere. Seems like a common problem, but I couldn't find the solution anyplace.)

thanks.

Maybe. What brand/model Receiver or DVR do you have?

Removing them from the Guide is easy by setting up Favorites lists. But removing them from the Search results isn't possible.

Um, Do you mean the duplicates of th sd channels? Like ESPN sd and hd? If so, yes you can... Its in display tab in the setup menu.. change it from show sd duplicates to hide sd duplicates.. They won't show in searches, or anything else...

I'm waiting for them to remove the MPEG2 HD duplicates, last weekend I got dup recordings of the Nascar race on 75 and 245...if people havent upgraded, they arent going to, shut them off please.

Change your dish setup from an SWM5 to an SWM3. This worked for me.

This will work if you have a Slimline 5 SWM LNB. If you have a conventional Slimline 5 dish, and change your receivers to Slimline 3, you might end up with guide problems down the road. They have different stacking plans, and the receiver could get confused.

That's not a good idea. It will cause Guide Data issues.

Will it work if you have a regular Slimline 5 with a SWM8 unit? I've been thinking about doing this for a while but haven't pulled the trigger because of worries about guide issues. I would imagine that the SWM8 only pulls guide data from 101 but I've never confirmed it.

That should work. The suggestion was to change from SWM5 to SWM3, not SL5 to SL3.

East coast dns feeds go away in July.. Hopefully everything else soon after...

I have had no issues with my HR21, but I have with my H20. I have therefore kept my H20 as a Slimline 5 setup.

Thanks for all the feedback. I have an HR20 (-700, I think). It is not a SWM setup, but have a slimline dish.

Just to be clear, the 70's and 80's channels are the ones I'd like to get rid of, since: (a) I don't get any signal on them; and (b) they're duplicates.

From the sound of the responses though, it seems like -- given my setup -- I just have to wait until they remove these from the guide. Right?

Did you mention that earlier? I think I missed that. You don't get reception off of 110 or 119? Do you have any guide errors/problems? Which dish type do you actually have? http://www.solidsignal.com/satellite/directv_dish_antenna_types.asp

I typed incorrectly. I do not have an SWM setup. I only have a standard Slimline 5 dish.

My HR21 is set to a Slimline 3 as to not show the legacy MPEG2 HD channels. I have no guide data problems here.

On my H20, I played around with a Slimline 3 setup, but lost guide data for MPEG4 channels and set it back to a Slimline 5 setup.

Hope this clarification helps. Sorry for the mix up.

Bad advice.

On Non-DVRs it can cause guide issues.

On the HD DVRs & the R22, you don't get a choice anyway as the software will detect which SWiM 3/5 is installed.

You can and will still experience guide data issues on the HR21. It's just not as easy to notice since they can store guide data for longer periods of time. If you want a SL3 buy one and swap your lnb. It's not hard to do and isn't that expensive.
