My trusty 501 that has served me well for over a year fried when a nearby lightning strike took out the signal receiver. My 6000 was unaffected as well as every other electronic device in my house.

So I get a replacement shipped for $35 if I join their warranty program - ok I bit...

The next 501 came in great shape - even quiter than my old 501 - worked like charm... I was a happy camper!

After 4 days I start getting signal errors, turns out many even TPs on 110 are either blank or very low. I swap connections with the 6000 it reads fine. I even try another cable , still no good on that receiver. Crud... I call up and get another.

I get the next one and it seems to work fine, but has a nasty WHINE. but not from the hard drive! From the signal receiver. Whenever I plug in the cable , or when it goes through a signal check (on/off) I can here it whine bad. Weird... but it works...

Do I have a case for them to send me ANOTHER one? I guess not - they dont replace due to noise to they? Im hoping it dies but then they are gonna get suspicious of my wiring. But I ran the 2nd 301 off the 2nd SW21 (that the 6000 has been on) when it fried on its own.

Also, the 3rd one I got says DP 501 on the bottom left. I notice it is a little different on the front than the first 2... is it newer or older? prototype?

Sigh.... when I get my 921 I will probably toss it... so maybe I can live with it. I certainly can't resell it now in good conscience... I was planning on selling my good old one...

I use to have two 501,s in my home and ended up throwing both of them out. The one in the bedroom kept waking us up all the time and both of them were constantly freezing up to the point of total frustration.

Also, with the 921 supposedly having two tuners, what makes you think it will not be just as bad ?

I guess I have little confidence at this point

The 921 will be upstairs in the noisy family room. The 501 is downstairs in the quiet den (where guests may sleep on occasion).

So I am prepared for the 921. The fan(?)s of the fully loaded 6000 are pretty bad now...

They should replace it if it is noisy. Its not your fault it is noisy and that is a defect in a bearing in the fan I have heard. I would pay no further shipping charges and make them eat it.
