View Full Version : Might be moving........
How smooth is it with Directv when moving? Any charges? The new place has a dish installed. But it is not for HD. We just got DTV a few months ago with a HR22 and standard receiver for the back room. I assume we take every thing with us and DTV will come out and remove our dish? Then install it at the new place?

Was very smooth for me when I did it, no charges etc... They will not move the dish, they will install a brand new one in hopes that whoever moves into your old house will use the dish and order service with Directv. Good Luck with your move.

You'll want to call DirecTV and ask for a Mover's Connection.
You'll bring your receivers and remotes, but leave the dish. DirecTV will install the appropriate new dish on your new house. DirecTV does *not* uninstall dishes.
Advice:
- Schedule the Mover's for a couple of days AFTER you move. Everyone runs behind on their move, and you'll be busy moving and packing the day of your move, so that's the worst time to schedule it.
- You'll need all of your TVs in place and powered up, and all of your receivers (with their access cards) and remotes available before the tech will proceed with the Mover's install.

I was pleased with mine, but every install is different (moved 2 months ago). If you call and do movers connection, they will give you 3 months of Starz, HBO and Showtime (if they are still running that special). They also gave me a free standard DVR and gave me another HD DVR for $99. Are there 4 lines to the dish at the new location or only 2? If there are only 2 and running 2 more will be difficult, the installer may do an SWM dish since you have new gear. Especially if you only have single runs on the inside of the new house.

The key item is if you have used the movers program within a year time period. I just used the movers program and it was painless, but they confirm that you have not used it for a year. I move at least every year and a half due to my job and always us the movers program.
Being you just started with D* this may be an issue.

I moved around 5 years ago and used Mover's Connection. Not a single problem at all.

I moved April '07 into an apartment. Went pretty smoothly, except that the first tech didn't bring the right base for a 5 LNB non-penetrating roof mount, so had to reschedule a couple days later.
If the HD dish can be installed in place of the dish that is currently at your new place, chances are you shouldn't incur additional cost, unless there are additional cable runs needed that are not 'standard'. In my case, the non-penetrating roof mount (required by the management company) did cost extra because it was not standard. Four runs from the dish, one from the antenna from the third story roof to my first floor apartment - no charge.
Thanks guys. Looks like we got the green light and will be signing papers on Sunday. I noticed the previous owners having DTV as well. But no HD and just a standard receiver. Looks like we will need some upgrading come install time. Hope they can do a SWM install like we have with our HR22 and standard receiver. I also noticed the dish being mounted on the side of the house. It is not installed on the roof like the dish we have now. Since we have HD. I am hoping and praying they will not have to do a roof mount install. Not sure if the owner would go for that. He is a tad on the picky side.

What nobody has mentioned yet is that, as I understand it, using the Mover's Connection means renewing your contract (as if you were upgrading to new hardware).

I'm in the same situation: purchasing a home with the owners having non-hd dish and would also like to know what happens to your contract? Although I'm fearing the worse...:nono:

Also, try to get them to update your install address. Mine hasn't ever been updated after I moved 2+ years ago. The website still shows the old address, but it hasn't caused any issues, I just make sure they have the right address when I need a tech to do anything.

+1 I did mover's connection about a year ago, and I'd definitely stress that you make sure they delete your old address! I had a problem where an HR21 died a few months ago and they sent a swap -- I confirmed the "correct" address with the CSR, but the swap went to the old address anyway (also sat in the rain for two days as the new owner didn't know it was there!) They also dispatched a tech to the old address one time, lucky enough he called and was able to re-route quickly... It took many calls to make sure the old address was permanently removed!

My understanding was that, taking advanrage of a free Mover's Connection in which there isn't also an equipment upgrade required a one-year commitment (which would run concurrent to any commitment you may be under at the time).
I could be wrong, but that was my understanding. It was definitely not a two-year commitment, though (unless you were also adding/upgrading HD or DVR equipment).

Thanks for that. If it's true then it won't affect my current commitment, which is 18 months. Mind you, I am tempted to see if the Mover's Connection rep. will throw in a 2nd HD receiver for free/cheap (in which case I'd start the 24 months afresh anyway).
I also understand that there is a $50 charge for anyone moving, who has been a customer for less than 12 months, but that if you get the right rep. then they might waive it.
This is all important info. that you don't learn from the D* website!

That fee is applied only if it is a new account, and it is younger than (I think) 4 months old or if you have bad payment history.
And no, you don't get a new commitment with only a movers connection. Unless you activate a new receiver.
