How many channels are available in DD 5.1? In looking through the guide I wasn't able to find a single one including movies on Cinemax or other movie channels like HDnet Movies.

Does the guide show when a show is in DD?

What percentage of movies would you say are available in DD?

Thanks!

I believe almost all true HD channels are DD; that is the HD standard. I don't think the guide even shows this anymore because almost all are.

sweet, i was hoping that was the case but was doubtful since i know it used to show DD in the guide info and now only shows Stereo and thought Dish removed the DD sound to save bandwidth.

Are some primetime shows also in DD? I was holding back of getting a surround sound system because of this, so this is great news.

Remember the HD stations will normally be DD, but can still be anything from mono to 5.1 ex.

Speaking of DD5.1 … help me out here … every time a channel that is DD5.1 shows a commercial that isn’t 5.1 (my AV shows it as 2.1), that commercial is obnoxiously loud… so rather than turning the volume down for the commercial or DVR’n everything, is there a fix? It’s extremely annoying…

I have a Dish 722 hooked to a Pioneer vsx-94thx via HDMI.

A very common complaint, but, no, there's no fix. The audio is originated that way from the source. The ad agencies that make commercials purposely make them as loud as possible, as they WANT you to be jolted to attention by them, and/or to hear them if you run to the kitchen for a snack.

It's a big enough issue that there are already bills in Congress to address the issue.

It wouldn't be quite so bad if Dish managed to sell their inserted ad time to more than just one or two advertisers. I must have heard that "Pure Sleep" ad about a million times by now, not to mention smilin' Bob with his little blue pills.

I saw recently that some higher end Onkyo receivers have the ability to "even out" the volume levels, but I have no idea if the technology actually works. Meanwhile, record and FF is our friend :)

Most inserted ads that are loud are supplied by Google. BTW why is Bob is in a Santa suit in June?:eek2::eek2::eek2:

Yes, many of the Onkyo receivers do have that ability, and not just the high end ones. I have the HT-S6100, and the receiver in this system has the ability to level all incoming audio. It has 3 settings: OFF, LOW and HIGH, depending on how much attenuation you desire. It works GREAT !!! :D

I wish my Onkyo did that. I read the manual backwards and forwards twice and didn't see any kind of feature like that.
