So I just moved into a condo here on Miami Beach.

I'm renting the unit from the owner of the condo.

I want to get directv but the condo management says that I have to install on a tripod. I looked up at the building from the ground floor and have seen quite a few mounted directly the exterior wall of the building.

I have also seen a lot on tripods as well.

So if I get a tripod install for my dish is the tripod drilled to the floor of my balcony or does it just stand there? How does it get support for not falling over during strong storms that are common here in So. Florida.

I'm a newb to satellite tv so please pardon the ignorance! I don't think my landlord would be happy if I have to drill holes into his stone balcony floor.

So how does the tripod install work? I'm desperate to get Sunday Ticket but things are not looking good so far for me.
Thanks guys.

Mount the tripod to a large piece of plywood and then weigh the plywood down with concrete or cinder blocks.

no need for plywood, IMO its easier for it to slide around on that. more surface area to slide on, less presure on the ground.

heres what i would do, suspend a cinderblock or two from the center, hanging just an inch from the ground. OR

we also have rail mount kits, which i use very often and do not take up nearly as much patio space. http://pimages.solidsignal.com/SLMTRM_zoom.jpg

your installer should have them on truck, i stock at least 2 with me at all times. even if you are going standard def, you can use a pole adapter on top. this is a directv approved part.

i totally agree....i am against tripods. they can be securred with lag bolts but that would probably be a no no from the landlord. some form of rail mount would be much more secure and are designed for people in your position. hopefully you don't have to use flat cable jumpers for entry.
