Hi.. let me start...

I got today 2 remotes - both older style (black ones), with no blue buttons, - on one it says UHF and on other one it doesn't...
They are both universal and both have VCR buttons separately at the bottom of remote...

I didn't know those could be non-UHF (i thought those are all UHFs)...
But - i guess i was wrong - i tested them - and one with UHF writing is UHF, and the other one wasn't :)

BTW - i tried the VCRs buttons (Rew/Fwd i think) (as someone suggested before) for scrolling Page up, Page down on the guide - works great.. Thanks..

Also question - Newer remotes (with blue buttons) - have "Sys Info" button on them, but these ones do not... Is there some trick maybe to press something to See "Sys Info" right away (as in new styles of remotes), or the only way to do it on those older black remotes (above) is to go to the Menu, etc, Installation, etc?
Of course one can just pull the card out to see Sys Info (hehe - but that is different trick) :)

Also - do those remotes open up?
Expecially the top Plastic protective cover part - where the signal is sent?
Cuz one is missing a bit of the corner ...so i was going to switch those around, (to put nicer one to the UHF one) - but it aint easy..
So i gave up for now - before i break them..
The one that is missing corner of plastic - came out easy (cuz of missing corner), but the non-defective one - didn't want to come off..

What are those remotes approx. worth nowadays (UHF one and Non-UHF one)?
I also got UHF antenna as well - what is this thing approx worth...

Thanks..

E* has always made both IR and UHF black button and blue button remote controls. Example; the 1000 and (4000 for the most part) where IR only receivers. The 1000, 4000 and 5000 do not support the System Info feature even from the newer blue button / platinum remotes nor does pulling the smart card result in the System Info screen like the newer models.

ah - i see...
How about if black button remote is being used on a newer IRD (supporting Sys Info Button etc) - any trick to make black button remote to get to Sys Info fast (maybe with one key press)? :)

Also - how much the above described items are aprox worth..

Thanks again

They did not put the system info button the remote but they put the button on the receivers (at least I know they did the 3000, in which was my first receiver back in 1997). It seems that when the second generation receivers came out they decided to put the system info button on the remote instead of the receiver. The black remote that is UHF may operate farther than the current UHF remote does (according to what I have heard and my own experiences).

Don't know which receiver you're working with, but pressing Info when the rcvr is off may work. Or turn it on and go to Menu, 6, 1, 3.

ya - i know about Menu 6.1.3.

Will try "Info" though (with rcvr off) (I guess you are suggesting "Info" in this case instead of "Sys.Info" button, that these remotes do not have)

I thought I could remember in the past where I pressed just the regular info button (not system info button) and it displayed the system information when the receiver was off.

Back to this question...

Does anyone know a way (or some trick) to take / pop the plastic part out from one of those remotes (without breaking it)?

Or is that even Possible at all?

Thanks again...

Insert a flat screwdriver into the slot at the very bottom of the control and carefully twist it to seperate the top & bottom sections. As they seperate you can work the screwdriver around the sides & gently pry them apart.

I've done this a few times to clean the contacts under the buttons with alcohol (denatured, isopropyl or methyl - not household rubbing alcohol).

But the plastic part is on Top of remote..

Is that OK - cuz it will all separate?

That is correct, the IR bezel is only part of the top of the remote. Also, though the older receivers have a System Info button on the front panel, they do not recognize the System Info IR code.
