View Full Version : For DishPlayer owners wondering why the guide is only 8 days

Perhaps you have also noticed slow remote response. I had both of these problems and the rmote issue was getting worse every day to the point that you could hit a button and wait for 15 seconds for it to take effect. When I went to the guide by date and time screen, I only had 2 overlapping days, the last of which only went to 5am.

In an attempt to fix my slow remote response, I pulled the smartcard on my DishPlayers and when they rebooted, they both went to the 10 minute getting TV info screen, after that I had a 9 day guide with 3 overlapping days like this:

I guess I should have done what I always do and pull the smartcard right after an update. Clearly something is not totally right with the DP after it takes the latest SW, mine was working fine except the worsening remote issues since the download but each time it got the guide, it somehow dropped the last day.

This is not a DishPlayer problem (except maybe for the slow remote response), it is a timing issue and the way the DishPlayer updates its guide.

The EEPG is updated several times a day and, depending on when you get it, you may get more information. The other DISH PVRs (501, 508, 522 and 721) get their EEPG "on the fly" (the 5xx need to be "off") but the DishPlayers normally only get the EEPG after the 3 AM download. You can "force" the DishPlayer to retrieve the EEPG by running a switch test or by doing a reset (pulling the smartcard is one way to do a reset). After you do that you will have the latest EEPG and it will have as much information as the EEPG on the other DISH PVRs (I compared the DishPlayer with my 721 and the guides were the same length after I ran a switch test on the DishPlayer).

Just thought I would point out that the above is really10 days. Most people seem to think that if a week starts on say a Monday then the week ends on the following Monday, but it doesn't the week ends at Midnight on Sunday cause if you count the following Monday it's an eighth day.

They should make it an option of how much hard drive can be used to store the program guide so you could choose to have 3 days of information or 21 days.

Well, the current day guide is not a whole day unless it is midnight and the last day only goes to 4 or 5AM so it is not a "day" IMO.

Also I have noticed it go back down to 8 days again. It just seems weird that it will get 8 days on it's own but if I make it get a new guide at 8:00 in the morning, it will get one more day of info.
