Are Ads coming to Dish Network?
I'm working on becoming a subscriber to Dish Network.
That means that I've called my favorite local Satellite Guy,
but he hasn't had time to come to the house and start the
sign-up/installation process.
While waiting, I see this (the link below) on Twitter.

Wow. This looks bad. Are there Ads now on Dish Network?
Not being a subscriber, and never having seen a TV displaying
Dish Network, I have no idea if Dish Network inserts Ads
between shows on say, HBO.
Maybe I should just postpone subscribing and extend my 4DTV
subscriptions. I can imagine a Nightmare scenario: Power-On
the ViPDVR and be forced to wait while 15 minutes of commercials
play. I hope I'm just being stupid, or just had too much coffee.
What's going on here?

You believe something a Twit says?
Dish runs their own ads of course, so does Direct and the cable companies. Between movies on premium channels? I've never seen that.
DISH unfortunately runs their set of insert ads on many of their channels. Easy to tell, as they some times cut in late, are louder than other ads airing on a particular channels and are mainly broadcast in standard definition (most noticable on HD channels. They also repeat unendlessly; sometimes several times per hour. At least they do just pop up during programming. The cable channels already have their annoying practice of microtext above their logos and animated promos for upcoming shows. At least they have not gone to the next step and running full scale ads or crawls for ads on the screen during a program; though, that is the next to come.
This to compliment infomercials run on "cable" channels and broadcast TV. But, no pop ups. They have the capability of popping up an icon "Learn More", but this can be turned off by disabling the "Special Features" capability setting via their converter box menus.
As for ads, has anyone else noticed that some network affiliates are dropping some network programming to air informercials in the middle of prime time. The NBC affiliate in Denver did this last Saturday night at 8:00 to interrupt "Law and Order". The station claims they need more revenue and thus justified the practice. They also justified that they will not allow waivers to receive distant signals over exclusive rights, competition and syndication issues. Oh yeah, the episode of "Law and Order" was not scheduled at a later time. So, is this our future? More annoying informercials, pre-empted programming and no recourse to receive network programming because broadcasters have effectively created monopolies across the country, using publicly own airwaves?
Yes, this could be another thread, if someone wants to create one.

All you have to do is view teh Disney channel...they ONLY run Disney ads between the programming. I don't think a programming ad for Dish is a big deal. As others said, DTV and cable do this as well.
DVR and Quick Skip. Plus I have a button on my Harmony One that sends the Quick Skip 4 times in succession. Commercials don't bother me :p

Perhaps what the "twit" (I thing the proper term is "Tweet") may be referring to are the interactive prompts that pop up on a few channels during certain commercials such as Ford commercials. You don't have to click on them and they do go away as soon as the commercial is over. The only annoying one for me is the interactive CNN prompt. I hit "cancel" and it comes back within a minute. NBD If the prompts annoy me enough I'll watch FNC instead :p

I would like to do the same on mine. Thanks ron
I would like to do the same on mine. Thanks ronOpen the Logitech software, Activities tab>select the Customize Buttons on the activity you have set up for watching Dish. At the bottom is a button labeled Add Sequence. I used that in the Additional Buttons tab to set up a button I labeled CSkip and told it to send the Quick Skip 4 times. I also have one I called List that sends the DVR twice to get the DVR listing up(I'm lazy, why press the button twice when I can do it once :p) I think you are limited to either 5 or 7 actions in a sequence. It wasn't enough to turn CC on and off so I set up another activity and added the sequence to the start up of that activity. Hope this helps. If you'd like I can post screen shots of all this.
