Just wondering if there's any word on *D upgrading/modernizing the screens on these receivers? Maybe in HD? They're getting a little long in the tooth. Sort of bland. Now they're functional so I don't want them to change and have them be pretty but unusable but.......
Seems like I remember some talk on here about it but nothing ever came to fruition.

Back in the day, EVERY brand of DirecTV receiver had a totally different looking on-screen guide all with different setup options. It probably drove the CSR's crazy. It drove me crazy because I had a Hughes and an RCA and they didn't even look like they were picking up the same satellite signal!
DirecTV took great pains when they introduced receivers with their own brand name on them to standardize the user interface so EVERY DirecTV receiver's user interface looked the same. In addition, user options were minimized. My RCA had about 8 different "schemes" all with cute titles like "Ocean Blue" for the guide. Now you can have any color you like as long as it's blue. (With apologies to Henry Ford) They have continued supporting this standard by updating every receiver model when a change is made (like adding the yellow-button context-sensitive pop-up menus)
It is probably unlikely that any major change will be made due to this product philosophy but who knows??

There is rumor of an HD interface, it may retain most of the same look, but I think it will at least be scaled 720/1080 instead of 480. I have no idea when we will see one if it is in the works
The Wachovia call mentioned a new UI next year, just need to find the link.
