No, you need to get a 500+ dish with lnb's. The lnb's will not work properly on an older 500 dish.

118.7 needs a larger dish than a dish 500.

118.7 is not a DBS-class satellite, but an FSS-class satellite. As such, it needs a 30+ inch dish and a special LNB (118.7 is the only FSS satellite that uses circular polarization, so it's very unique).

Bottom line: the cheapest, easiest, and by far the most reliable way to get 118.7 is with a Dish Network "Plus" dish. While you might get something else to work, unless you're a hardcore satellite dish "hacker", you'll spend a lot more money, waste a lot more time, and be a lot more frustrated than if you got the Plus dish to begin with.

Old superdish will work

... with a Plus dish conversion kit, yes, but most find the Superdish more difficult to work with.

No need to spend $100 for the conversion kit if he only want 118. Just get the 118/119 assy and put on the SD and it will get 118 better than a D500+ and not hard to do.
