I called Dish Network about upgrading a receiver to an HD 722k. I was also looking around to purchase one and add it to my account. From talking to customer service there is no difference in monthly charges if I own the receiver myself or lease it from Dish. I currently have 3 SD receivers, they said they could remove one and add the leased HD receiver but in comparing the monthly costs the total charges each month would be the same, I thought that by purchasing a receiver I would not pay a monthly lease fee? Also if you go with the lease option, is there any way to make sure I get a 722k? Since it is only one TV, do I have to tell them I really want to hook it up to 2 tv's?

It is either a lease fee or an additional receiver fee, still the same amount. When leasing from either DISH or Directv you get what is in the warehouse. In your case it could be a 722 or a 722K, more than likely you would get the 722K but it isn't definite until you open the box.
What you really need to worry about is that you have correct cabling for the 722. My guess is you have a DP34 with 3 SD receivers, you would need 2 cables from the switch to the 722 for it to operate and you probably have only 1.

Lease vs purchase is pretty much the same per-month cost so no advantage there.
Boba is correct, though, that when leasing it can sometimes be more difficult to receive a specific receiver model when things like the 722/722K are so similar.
To absolutely guarantee you get a 722K, buying is the only sure-fire way probably right now... but you could always specifically request that model for a lease and make sure they know that you will refuse any other model if they send something different.
Just be prepared in case you have to do that if the guy who rolls in the truck comes with the "wrong" receiver, as can happen sometimes.
