It was a typo. Should have been E*. Maybe some moderator will come along and correct it, as the system will not allow me to correct it.

Echostar 3 is at 61.5. Dish has license for 2-22 even and leases 6 transponders from Sky Angel 26,27,28,29,30,31. So, with R/L DBS getting close to launch next month, they are simply moving off the R/L DBS transponders.

This is going to be another service for those that defaulted on Dish and Direct to go or another alternative for those that want to buy channels individually. You are going to hear a lot of people asking why their provider cannot do that when Rainbow can and they will think they have been lied to on the Charlie Chat when Charlie gave his response.

Perhaps Dish could even lease some space to Rainbow as well like they do to Sky Angel or make a deal with them to where if they can use some of their bandwidth to broadcast to their customers some of their channels then they can use some of Dish's bandwidth as well and perhaps make a profit off of some of the locals or other channels that would be provided and be a solution for Rainbow.

I would be wary to sign up to any new provider for a year without a track record to go on. But that is just me. Never bought a first year new model car for the same reason. Did not want to be bothered with recalls and plagued by problems.

The preliminary brochure for R/L DBS shows only some channels available a la carte. Quite a few of them have an asterick beside them that says only available in the package. Note though that they have a lot of small packages.

Just "edit it out" with something else :)

Also Dish could make a contract if they do lease space to them or some kind of agreement to where if they would go out of business they would sell the satellite to Dish Network under an agreement.

Just wanna point out the observation that the signal strength on 61.5's TPs appears to be much stronger now

For example on Russian ch 592, tp 14 - signal strength now at like 108 or something (where previously it was in the 80s, and even 70s at times)
Other TPs appear to be stronger as well...

Could they have put more power into their transponders since they have fewer they have to send power to?

I was gonna say earlier, that now since they have less TPs to power, they should give more power to existing TPs to improve signal strength. I wonder if Sky Angel TPs are stronger too.

Yes they are...
All TPs appear to be stronger now at 61.5

Echostar 3 at 61.5 is broken (that is why it was moved to 61.5). It cannot run the transponders at double power without overheating problems. I do not know, but maybe they are running them with a bit more power.

Part one (about it being broken) is correct. IIRC it's a cooling problem so if they run too many transponders, the bird overheats.

Part two about E*3 being moved to 61.5° because of this problem is incorrect. The bird was suppoesec to go up there. I was never meant to go anywhere else.

See ya

Tony is correct, E3 was to always go to 61.5.

I notice that E* is still squatting on the unassigned transponders. I know they have a STA to be there, but it is interesting that they move off the R/L ones but not the unassigned ones, even though they could. A couple of transponders are lightly loaded.

I wonder if they are signaling they plan to win the auction?
