The Microsoft WPC will be in New Orleans next week and the first question in your mind might be... who cares?
The annual event is a cheering session for Microsoft Partners but it also is an interesting source of information that just kind of gets released.
1. Look for more information on Windows 7 Pricing.
2. The release of the Technical Preview for Office 2010
3. Will electronic downloads of Windows 7 be available before Oct 22nd?
4. When will Windows 7 be available from MSDN and TechNet sites?
5. There are still upgrade issues for Windows 7.
Larry
Yawn.
Oh, oh! Me, me! I have a question... :icon_kiff
When will SP4 for XP be released? :scratchin

As far as XP SP4 goes, look for the final service pack for XP 4th quarter 2009 or early 1st quarter 2010.
Glad your happy with XP.
I spoke to a friend the other day who runs a large enterprise network and still uses XP on all but a few machines which are Vista... his plan, and this is apparently the plan of a lot of network admins, is to not upgrade XP machines, but to bring in all new machines with Windows 7, skipping Vista. He will convert all of his Vista machines to Windows 7 immediately and begin testing for issues. His plan calls for 45% conversion to Windows 7 in 2010, followed by an additional 45% in 2011. The balance will be in 2012. This plan works well with Microsoft's phase out of XP in 2011.
Yawn.

Skipping Vista is an excellent plan iff enterprise-wide testing of interoperability of XP and Win7 has been completely successful.

Yeah, I'm very suprised to see that. MS really needs to let the dinosaur die.

Microsoft has left open the issue of SP4. There is still quite a bit of time between now and when they will close down support for this venerable old workhorse.
Given the amount of time involved it is almost impossible not to issue, at the very least, a roll up package. Expect nothing more than that though.
Microsoft has made it extremely easy for any application that needs XP to run, including Internet Explorer 6, to run on Windows 7. My "All Programs" menu has IE6 listed and it runs just fine in a normal window. This will work on any XP app. Using this same ability, Houskamp has been able to get some Windows 3.1 and Windows 98 games to run on Windows 7. As this becomes more obvious to IT folks, there will be even less reason to continue to support XP.

I'd have to agree with you on that.
I'm going to skip right from XP to WIN7, and in running the WIN7 Advisor, I was actually surprised that the only thing that did not meet current WIN7 requirements were 2 drivers for programs.
Both programs actually already have updates for WIN7 that can be downloaded.
So far, everything points to a smooth transition, and all your beta testing reports seem to point to a lean, mean, fighting machine OS in WIN7. :D
