View Full Version : HR22-100 Install question
Hi guys,
I did an installation today that included 1 HR22-100 and a D12. At first, the HR22 would not get past the verifying stage, even though both tuners showed good signal strengths. I changed the BBC's, and was able to get to the screen where I activate. At this point, it goes through another verification, and fails the 18v for 101 on tuner 2. I switched the lines around, and still got the failure on tuner 2. I had about decided that I had a bad receiver, and called my field sup. He told me to run the 2 lines into 2 SWM 2 splitters, and then into the BBC's. It worked!
I called him back, and he says several techs have been having the same failure lately, and that was what ISS told him to do.
My question would be, what is causing this, and how does the SWM splitter correct the situation?

Since its being asked. You installed a SWM on a setup of less than 5 tuners? I only ask cause it seems that there is a long debate on when the SWM is allowed to be used. In particular I ask because your location is outside of Florida where they only thing I see and hear being installed for HD are SWM installs.
Any input would be helpful.
This was not a SWM install. Regular SL3, four outputs. I ran all four wires to a quad ground block. Then 1 to the D12, and 2 to the HR22. Used the BBC's. The splitters I used were like the ones pictured here (https://www.weaknees.com/cart/customer/product.php?productid=57249&xid=c9e3b79b99e0ecc9dec6c0940b5d1ef8).
There was no power inserter, or anything else to do with a SWM system. I was just trying to get the thing to work. I had been trying for 2 hours, and should have been at my next install.

Do you have the tech bulletin about a software error where low signals are reported. Solution is to attenuate signal with 100ft of jumper wire.
I've heard various reasons for the HR22/R22 why issues. The most reasonable is the made in sticker on the back of the unit. Any power passing splitters, wild blue attenuaters or lots of cable will work. I like things that fit in my pocket.

You do realize that we as Americans are the reason the Made in "not here" Sticker is on most of our electronics don't you? None of us could afford to buy the electronics if it was Made in USA, due to our high demands to get paid top dollar.

Installation Verification and Service issue
The following receivers have a potential problem during IV or may have low signal levels on the 101
transponders. Typically, you will only see this when there is a very short cable run from the LNB to
the IRD.
HR21-100
HR22-100
R22-100
If you are experiencing an issue with Installation Verification ERROR CODE 0004 (101º signal
below threshold) or low or fluctuating signal levels on 101 transponders, USE ONE OF THE
workarounds below:
Option 1
1. Add a 5-10dB attenuator – must be power passing and rated from 250Mhz to 2150MHz (if
available).
2. Re-test.
3. Activate receiver.
Option 2
1. Temporarily add an additional 2, 4 or 8 way SWiM Splitter directly behind the receiver to
attenuate signal or a 10dB attenuator – must be power passing and rated from 2Mhz to
2150MHz (if available).
2. Re-test.
3. Activate receiver.
Thanks guys, I never received that one.
