As it looks like DirecTV will not be carrying BBCA-HD at launch ...
Your best bet would be to contact HD-Net to ask them if they will carry it. I have the feeling they will NOT have the rights, as BBCA will be carrying Torchwood in HD.

Looks like I power up my torrent client shortly.:)
HDNet will not be showing the new Torchwoods. The rights are owned by BBC-America which has made Torchwood:Children of Earth the cornerstone of the launch of BBC-America HD. Which is great but as far as I can tell no cable or satellite provider has formally announced that they will carry it. Assuming DTV will NOT be turning the BBC-America HD feed on day one you can also purchase the Blu-Ray DVD the week after they air (I think)

It's a bit saddening to think that BBCA will air Torchwood because you're guaranteed that it will be edited, and that's a bad thing when it comes to Torchwood. I'd wait to buy/rent the blu-ray the following week.
Its only a 5 part mini series. So I wouldn't think it would be worth it for anyone to negotiate the rights to put Season 3 on another network.
parts 1-4 are out in 720p at the getting places. Not bad, Last season was better so far. All parts will air by Friday.

Drew, BBCA is SD not HD, right?
Drew, BBCA is SD not HD, right? At the moment, DIRECTV only carries BBCA in SD, so you're right. But as of July 20, 2009 BBCA will be available in HD to any provider electing to carry it. BBCA has the rights to Torchwood in both SD and HD, unlike in previous years where they had SD rights but HDNet had HD rights.
I already have it coming via Netflix in bluray.

Well I just hope Directv takes them up on the offer. That will leave AMC as my last SD holdout.

Sad to say, but I agree with you, and it's not only edits. Although getting BBCA in HD on DirecTV would be a step in the right direction, you can be sure that Torchwood will be completely ruined by constant commercial interruption (like you really want to know when they're next showing the nth repeat of "476lb Teenager"), and also by all the on-screen clutter telling you what you are actually watching (as if you didn't know), and what's on next/later/tomorrow (in case you can't work the guide).
HDnet really did an excellent job with their presentation of Torchwood that BBCA will almost certainly fail to do. I have a lot of respect for the BBC - for BBCA, far less so.
(Actually even that respect is fading due to their increasing focus on reality shows and excessively paid "presenters", rather than sticking to their original values - still that's a completely separate rant...)
