Larry Doby, a pioneer who broke the color barrier in the
American League just months after Jackie Robinson integrated
the Major Leagues in 1947, died Wednesday night at his home
in Montclair, N.J. Doby was 79.

I can't imagine what Black players had to endure during the earlier years.

Sad news. Larry Doby was every bit as responsible for braking the color barrier as Jackie Robinson.

A fine man and a fine player. I feel fortunate to have seen and applauded him at several appearances at Jacobs Field.
