PPV price = $2.99
Is it just me, or is this a tactless move by DIRECTV? If MJ was still alive, would DIRECTV really charge for a movie made back in 1978? Trying to make a buck off a dead man. :nono2:

Well I guess it depends. If enough customers are requesting the movie and the studio charges DirecTV, then DirecTV will pass the cost of the movie on to those who wish to view it. If customers are not requesting it, then it looks like DirecTV is attempting to capitalize on Jackson's death.

I'm sure the studio didn't just give the movie to DirecTV to air for free

No interest here, but it doesn't bother me. Nobody's providing Jackson 5 albums, from much earlier than 1978, for free. And I'd guess they're selling well these days.
Profiting on the death of entertainers/authors/artists has a long history.

The Wiz showed up on TCM about a year or so ago. For free.*

Yeah, surprising they didn't put it on the 101 or that someone like MTV/VH1 didn't pick it up. There's also that Captian Eo thing he did in the 90s for Disney - maybe it'll show up sometime.

Wasn't that in 3D too? D* might charge extra fees for HD version and extra for 3D fee.

If that's your rationale, why doesn't DIRECTV charge for all shows on the 101? I'm sure the studios didn't provide them for free.
The bottom-line, DIRECTV is trying to capitalize on a dead man.
The bottom-line, DIRECTV is trying to capitalize on a dead man. So's iTunes, then. And Amazon's mp3 store, etc. etc. etc.
I'm pretty sure the living Jackson's aren't too upset when the royalty checks start coming in to pay off Michael's debt.

A bit OT but ya gotta love that British humor...
Here is an article (http://www.mirror.co.uk/celebs/news/2009/07/05/michael-jackson-to-be-buried-without-his-brain-115875-21495043/) explaining the time it will take to analyze MJs brain, to determine drug levels etc. The possibility MJ would be buried without his Grey Matter. The article ends with:
- MICHAEL Jackson starred as the Scarecrow in The Wiz, the 1978 musical version of The Wizard of Oz – playing the character without a brain opposite Diana Ross as Dorothy.

Can MJ not be in the news? I guess they have to save up to pay for his "funeral" if CA decides to give the bill to the family.
