View Full Version : DT12-300 searching for new software

Installer tried replacing our five DRD420RE's receivers with five new DT12-300's receivers. All of the new DT12-300's, upon start up, get the "searching for new software (1169) message". The down load bar never moves, obviously the receiver doesn't get the download, and receiver shuts down after 5 minutes. Installer tried new dish (dual LNB) and a new Zinwell MS6X8WB-Z. No help. Put the old DRD420RE's back in and they all work fine. Installer said he'd be back out Sunday. Any suggestions?

I would have hooked up 2 receivers directly to the dish/LNB and tried to update them. I've never seen the problem you describe, though.

Good idea. I connected one (there are two coming off the dish) of the output coax from the dish directly to the back of the receiver's SAT in connection. Still same problem, 0% download complete.

Get another box. I had a D12 one time which would not 'catch' the download and just looped and looped. Replacement box was OK.

DIRECTV installer ended up using the dish setup he had on the back of his van to load all of my receivers. Apparently I was unable to pick up the correct transponder (sat 99 xpdr 30). Anyways, all is working now. Said if it happens again I need new cable from my antenna too my switch.

Well that doesn't make any sense. The D12-300 is an SD Receiver and doesn't even use any signals from the HD satellites at 99 and 103º. Did the tech check your dish and signal levels. What's to prevent this problem from happening again the next time there's a new software update?
Please post back with your signal readings for each satellite's transponders (and both tuners if applicable). You'll find these readings under "Menu" -> "Setup" -> "System Setup" -> Satellite -> "View Signal Strength".
Fill in your readings for each satellite and tuner using these examples. A properly aligned dish will show 80-90s on most of the relevant transponders (although some will be low or zero):
Satellite transponders (32 total at 101º)
[Most of your standard definition channels are beamed from 101ºW]

17-24 # # # # # # # #
25-32 # # # # # # # #
Satellite transponders (3 total at 110º)
[A few HD channels, also beamed from 99 & 103º until 2009]

Satellite transponders (11 total at 119º)

That's plain wrong tpn for FW download.
Check and watch www.redh.com/dtv page. Recheck signal (at 101W !) for that tpn where is spooling current FW for D12-300.

Here are my SAT values. Satellite transponders at 101º(1-8) 100 98 96 92 97 99 98 98 (9-16) 98 98 97 94 98 98 97 99 (17-24) 96 97 96 96 96 98 97 92 (25-32) 98 98 96 87 75 00 00 96.
No other satellites are listed, just the one at 101.
Obviously transponder 30 and 31 are bad. Any reason why?

What's especially puzzling is that all FIVE of his D12 Receivers show the same "missing" transponders (30 & 31). And DirecTV tech has already replaced his Zinwell WB68 multiswitch and dish.

ttrav35, did you find what exactly 101w tpn using for spool D12's FW now ?
[I gave you URL for that.]
