Is there any explanation for these choices, or am I missing something?

As there's no "correct" answer, I think you can probably read into the question as much as you want to. :D

The poll is now closed. Now, for the explanation.

In the game, in every episode, each team has to face a detour. A choice betwen two tasks, each with it's own pros and cons.

:computer:I said that I would run this contest somewhat differently, and that, in the rules, additional prizes would be made available. I was also at Costco a few weeks ago and noticed some Columbia-TrStar DVDs in two-parks. The two-park was.... Spider Man (2002) and Hollow Man (2000). You can imagine a devious plan form in my head. :mad2:

So, in effect, I had a contest within a contest. All those who were voted for Spiderman entered the drawing for Spiderman DVD, and all who voted for Hollow Man entered the drawing for a Hollow Man DVD. Both are widescreen versions. The winners will still be eligible for the grand prizes.

(No, this is not The Mole contest. Otherwise, people who voted for Hollow Man would be in the drawing for Spiderman, and vice versa).

I hope you enjoyed this side diversion to the game.

Oops, I should have voted for Hollow Man then. I already have Spider Man on DVD.

Well, timf, why did you choose Spider Man? :)

To ensure that the drawing was as random as possible...
1. All of the people who voted for the detour were printed from the spreadsheet, then cut up into little strips and rolled up and put into a coffee cup.
2. After shaking the coffee cup, I dumped the contents and did a recount. However, some of the entries were "merged" together, so they were re-rolled and crushed to keep them intact, and put them in a coffee cup.
3. After another shake, I then dumped the contents of the coffee cup and put each rolled up entry on top of each DVD package and snapped the picture.
4. Shake coffee cup again, and rolled a standard dice. For Hollow Man, it came up as a three, so I pulled out three entries and opened the third entry. For Spider Man, it came up as a five, so five entries were pulled, and the fifth one opened.
5. The following messages were then PMed to the winners:

Congratulations! You've won the Hollow Man/Spiderman Widescreen DVD through DBSTalk's Amazing Race contest. To claim your prize, PM me your mailing address (PO Box OK) so I can mail you your prize. The winning of this prize still makes you eligible for the grand prize.

If I do not hear from you by 5:00 PM ET/2:00 PM PT July 3rd, or if you wish to decline the prize, another name will be drawn.

Thank you for participating in The Amazing Race IV contest.

And the winners are:
Hollow Man: Awaiting response.
Spider Man: Timco

Hopefully, it is random enough. I do NOT know who the first entries that were pulled, as they have been put back into the coffee cup in case another drawing in needed.
