Today I powered on my Sony 27" SD TV and noticed "S" wavy lines running across the middle and top of the screen. It's only visible when the screen has got a black image on it. Does anyone know a fix? This is a nice TV but I'm not sure what would have caused it. It's been unplugged for about 2 months and powered off before that.

I'd post a pic but my camera can't pick up the lines. It almost looks like interference, but I've got it connected to my R22 via Composite.
Plus my second TV also connected to the R22 has NO lines.

Any ideas? thanks

Is the TV in question facing a different direction (compass-wise) that it did previously?

Yes the tube was (and now again is) facing NW and when I moved it it was facing SE. I'm royally confused?! What does this have to do with my TV issue?

I'm guessing there's some sort of electromagnetic interference. I had a Sony 27" about 10 years ago and no matter what I did it was very susceptible to the microwave, placement of the speakers, screws in the entertainment center, etc. The slightest movement or re-alignment would cause wavy lines or a green cast to part of the screen.

CRT displays are quite susceptible to electromagnetic fields like that of the Earth itself. The "pop" when you turn the TV on is the degaussing circuit trying to "erase" the effects but it isn't always effective. With time, the problem may go away (or not) depending on how well the degaussing coil is working.

Be glad it isn't a bigger TV as you often have to go through a major convergence procedure when you turn the display.
