View Full Version : replacing defective DVR reqs 2 year commitment

You may see this post duplicated in the DVR forum, but I wanted to make sure everyone knew about this policy.

I had a defective HD DVR and could only get a replacement by agreeing to a new 2 year commitment.

This is a bad policy, especially considering the notorious unreliability of the HD DVRs. They are still unreliable after all their SW updates.

I think if the original was owned and you get a leased replacement it is a 2 year committment. If the original was leased, then there should not be a committment for the replacement.

If the original is leased then you would not be subject to a commitment.

If it was owned that's a different story and would trigger a two year commitment.

However, you shouldn't be having realibity issues.

What exactally do you mean by "unreliable"?

You should NOT miss recordings. You should NOT have lockups. You should NOT have to reboot to fix sluggishness.

These are abnormal situations. If you're having problems like you should start a thread in the HD DVR forum and we'll help you fix them.

As others above have noted, this is not the case for most people (who are leasing their DVRs). If it was a leased DVR, you were given incorrect information (which wouldn't be shocking, unfortunately) and should follow up to address it.

ice- your intolerance and harshness are stunning for such a noob. Unless you have something positive to contribute, keep out of it.

Actually that is not true in one case, if you have the PP, the owned reciever is replaced with a owned reciever. You may have to get through to the access card department to correct the issue but they will do that. All my equipment is owned - it all has been replaced over the years via the PP, all of it is still labeled as owned with no contract extension. Unfortunately it does take some time to get it corrected, the first level call in people are not aware of this and thjey can only activate the unit as leased with a commitment extension - a request to transfer to the access card department can normally get it resolved give a little time

If you have the protection plan you should not have a commitment.

If you have the plan leased equip. is replaced with leased equip. and Owned is replaced with Owned.... Still no commitment.

edit: Doh wing rider beat me to it... edit
