Hello,

I just installed an HR-20 and get the following error displayed:

99: O check E check
101: O check E check
103: O X E X
110: O (blank) E check
119: O check E check

I seem to get all the channels, but now I'm, thinking that something is wrong.
I have a 5 lnb dish (not slimline) and a standard 4X8 multiswitch.

I checked my other HR-20 and have the same error. Am I missing something? I'm in Philadelphia area.

Thanks,

NM

Very strange - I went to the 103 test channels and I get a message that the setup is correct. I also check the signal strength for 103 and its there....so why the error on the graphic setup screen?

You sure you have a Zinwell WB68 switch?

The old software falsely reported errors on 103. Updating to the new software (which the box will do on its own, or you can force it) will make the error go away.

What's the current software version supposed to be?

That's what I have on both boxes

what is the strength there?
I thought I had read somewhere that below 70 or so throws errors like this.

check transponder 3 and 14 on 103c. if they are below 80 it will fail.

I had a similar situation with my 5lnb swm line install the other day.
Was getting full signals but errors on both tuners.
Had to call into directv to get a waiver for activation.

Your saying you have the first generation aka side car ka/ku dish? It's highly possible that the lnb has or is in the process of dying.

Also, you say you have a 4x8 switch? That can also cause your issue. You should only be using a WB68 (6x8) or WB616 (6x16). Any other switch is not approved and can/will cause strange results.

I ordered a SWM which should be here next week so I'll see if that fixes the problem.

OOPS - The switch I have currently is a WB68.

Which SWiM did you order?

Did you order the external SWiM-8 or the SWiM5 LNB?

nomax post your 103 signal levels

103(s): 56, 0, 0, 0, 51, 0, NA, NA, NA, NA, NA, NA, NA, 87,75, 69, 60, 91, 80, 33, 0, 79, 89, NA, NA . . .

103(c): 80, 56, 79, 56, 82, 60, 79, 62, 82, 66, 79, 64, 80, 65, NA, NA . . .

My dish is on the roof and needs realignment twice a year. Should I be needing realignment so often - or are the techs they send that bad?

SWiM-8 found it new on eBay real cheap.

you shouldnt need realignment twice a year. you definitely need it now.

My readings on the other sats are all in the high 90's.

transponder 3 at 79 is why you failed odd
transponder 14 at 65 is why you failed even

do you have trees or maybe its clipping a building? if not you just need some tweaking to get those above 80 to pass. whats your 99c readings ?

99c: 95, 86, 88, 85, 91 , 81, 89, 82, 94, 83, 89, 83, 95, 85, NA, NA. . .

There are trees but the dish is on the roof. Signal has been good before with all the leaves so I know it's not the trees. The dish just doesn't seem to stay tightened long? I won't go up there myself to adjust it. Are there any good installers north of Philadelphia? Are there private installers?

The bi-annual dish realignments are my only complaint about D*.

If you need an alignment beyond the first time, then it's not mounted securely and needs to be redone. If it's properly secured, you won't have to touch it for years.

OK so what do I say to D*? They just send out a tech who makes it right for a few months and then I'm right back where I was. I have the protection plan.

A couple more questions: Is it easier to align the new slimline dishes and are they more sensitive? Will the SLM8 improve my sensitivity?

Thanks,

Be polite, but firm that they need to do whatever they need to do to get it right. Odds are it's only lagged into the roof decking. Are you able to get into the attic area under the dish? If so, take a look to see where the lag bolts are. They need to make it solid, be it add additional monopoles, or move it over a bit to hit a rafter. However, with good numbers on 99c, there is still a good chance that the LNB is flakey as well. They should replace the dish with a slimline on the service call.

No real difference in aligning the slimline vs the older sidecar. The back assembly is pretty much the same as is the procedure.

A swm will not fix your issue.

just curious here, are there monopoles attached?
these would be the small "legs" used to stabilize the larger pole.

I called and they refuse to do anything until I start losing the signal. I told them about the error and the signal strengths I have and the rep said that 60-80 is normal for 103 sat.

So I guess I have to wait until I lose the signal before they do anything about it.

Yes I do have stabilizers attached to the main pole.
