"The new DVR line will also feature units with built in VHS and Blu-ray recorders."

Seriously? VHS?

I think they will sell poorly and not even be on the market for a year.

Blank recordable Blu-Rays are far too expensive, and an external DVR is going to be limited to OTA to get HD content into the DVR.

Don't even start me with the whole VHS thing. VHS was dead before 2000. It's almost 2010.

It's probably available so that people can dub homemade VHS tapes to BR.

VHS recorders will probably be on the low end models, Blu-ray on the high end.

BattleZone: The article doesn't say but what if this DVR is compatible with cable cards? It could then be used with cable or FiOS.

I actually just purchased a DVD Burner/VHS combo unit to transfer old VHS tapes to DVD. There is still a market. Blu-Ray would make a great storage medium for old VHS video. Lots of standard def video can be held on one Blu-Ray disc.

It's not clear that these units will have VHS and Blu-ray recorders in one device. The article indicates that it is likely that VHS will be on lower end models and Blu-ray on higher end.
