So I was pretty happy I got another HD local, because Philly WPHL 17 went HD last week. This week we've seen two more HD bumps to My Network TV stations, Denver and Atlanta.

They're not the same company (WPHL is Tribune, Gannett owns Denver and WATL), so what's the deal? Are we finally seeing a push for all locals being carried?

COME ON, GET ME WHYY AND I'LL BE HAPPY!!

There are lots of reasons why many markets don't have all of their main network locals in HD, and those issues are being addressed. We've seen a constant trickle of stations being added in markets all over the country as those issues are resolved. We all know that eventually HD will be "standard", and the industry is hard at work to get there, but it takes time, money, and lots of work to make it happen.

I second RasputinAXP; I'll be happy when they add PBS (KBDI and KRMA) in Denver. FYI, WHYY is the PBS affiliate in Philadelphia, Delaware and Southwestern New Jersey.

COME ON, GET ME WHYY AND I'LL BE HAPPY!!Gee, we've had KRON (MyNetwork) in San Francisco for awhile. I guess somebody watches it, but its not on MyFavorites list. I want our PBS which is producing an hour of new HD programming locally daily as well as showing PBS network stuff. As far as I'm concerned both Dish and PBS are beginning to irritate me over the lack of PBS HD, and it's mostly Dish I blame as other signal providers have PBS HD.

One last comment. The Denver PBS stations in Denver are being "center cut" by DISH Network which makes them difficult to watch (they look worse now then they did when they were standard definition channels). Also, I found it interesting that they added KTVD; the MyTV affiliate. I suspect because KUSA effectively owns the channel, they wanted their HD newscast at 9 PM to look better. Most of the time KTVD shows little or no HD programming except MyTV shows and the newscast. I suspect next they will start uplinking the Spanish and religious channels next and have PBS uplinked at the end.

WHYY is HD-center-cut too; Sometimes Elmo talks to half-faced Muppets.

I thought Mytv ceased & became a syndicator. KRON our mytv affiliate is broke.

WNET here is center-cut down-converted channel looks terrible. When you watch it the text is cut off. I can get WNET good OTA so when I watch it it is the OTA HD channel.

One would think that DISH would uplink the flagship New York PBS station in HD. Are they doing the same thing to WGBH in Boston or WETA in Washington, DC?

As far as I'm aware right now there are no HD PBS stations being carried by Dish.

I know that could get hairy...WHYY Philadelphia/Wilmington broadcasts full HD on one channel and 2 or 3 subs.

Aren't many of the subchannels carried by PBS station pretty much the same across the country? If so, DISH can just carry a single subchannels and map it down (using KRMA Denver here) to 6.2, 6.3, etc. From what I know of the Denver PBS stations, the subchannels are not local to our area.

By the way, DISH really has to rethink "center cut". I am glad I have HD, as the SD channels using this method look worse than what i used to get from cable. "Center cut" reduces the clarity of pictures normally associated with satellite.

I don't think they are all the same, some PBS stations have two subchannels where others only 1 subchannel.
