Ok, I am a newbie here so please bare with me. I have looked through various threads before posting this question to not annoy anyone w a repetitive question. So if you can point me in the proper direction that'd be great!
Anyhow - Here's my question.
I have only one HD DVR in my house, I wanna add 3 more regular receivers.
I was told I need to get a 6x8 switch.
I know the 8 are for out-put, (2 for HD-DVRs and one for non).
But the two extra that are called "FlexPorts" on the 6 side, are throwing me off. Do these have to be used? Or can the switch be installed w/o using the "FlexPorts"?
Is this also a simple process of plug n play? Or do I have to notify D-tv? I know I will have to notify them that I have 3 addnl receivers w serial numbers and access car numbers etc, but aside that, would there be more?

Thanks all!!!!

It is fine to only use the first 4 ports and to leave the flex ports vacant.
No you do not have to tell D*
Yes, plug and play

The flex ports are for connecting separate dishes for specific situations. One is for a 72.5 dish for SD locals in some markets (which are going away and converting over to 99 or 103 anyway). The other is of an international dish at 95. As long as you do not have one of those dishes, you do not use the flex ports. Just leave them open.

The four other inputs are for the four coax lines from the dish. It does not matter which one goes to which input, any order is okay.

Here's a better question. Where can you buy these things other than the internet?

That's not exactly true. You will have to contact direct to get the extra receivers activated. Each receiver has a unique id. They will charge you $5 more per every month.

If I understand your question, you're asking whether you can stop by your radio shack or Best Buy to get one? Then no. You can get them from an ebay auction or solidsignal.com
