I am having problems with my HR20 DVR when I plug in a HDMI cable and try to watch 1080i or 1080p. When I try I get a screen that has snow in it and it also flickers. When I called Directv and complained they ran me through a couple of steps including a reset using the dreadful red button.

After about 20 minutes and no resolution (no pun intended) he informed me that it is a known problem and the engineers are working on it.

Is there anyone else out there having the same problem?

My unit works fine using component cables and watching in 1080i.

Please let me know if I am getting jerked around by Directv. I do have a equipment policy with them. Should I demand a replacement or upgrade to the new HD DVR?

Thanks

Not sure about the 'known' problem . . .

Process of elimination. . . can you :

Confirm the HDMI input on your TV with another device (DVD)?

Confirm the HR on another TV or input?

Try a different HDMI Cable?

These results should identify the culprit.

I had the same issue, it still happens once in a while, 2 techs came out, 1 replaced the zinwell multiswitch, although that was causing other problems. There is a problem with HDMI and certain televisions, my sony is not one of them as DTV told me but I still get this issue, I usually have to reset to solve the problem, try a different HDMI cable, are you using an HDMI switcher?
