Hi folks.

I am a newbie with this post.

Subscribed to DTV in late May 2009. Originally got a 1 HD DVR and 1 standard receiver. Today, decided to upgrade and get the HD receiver (H21) for the bedroom. Purchased at BB with gift certificates. Anyway, as I was setting this up at home. I realized that I can't program my remote (RC64) to turn on both the H21 and TV (Insignia, code 11564) at the same time. DTV CSR was no help. I found the code for the TV via the DTV website and followed the DTV receiver instructions.

With the original receiver, when it was installed by the satellite company, the installer, programmed the tv and receiver to be turned on at the same time with the remote, which was cool. I've searched on the web for a solution and nothing yet.

FYI, the tv can be turned on by sliding the remote to tv and then sliding it back to DTV and turning DTV on.

So any suggestions in how to turn on both the DTV receiver and TV, at the same time? Thanks.

Jose

The procedure to do this should be listed in the manual and on the remote setup menu.

use the remote from the old rcvr?

There are some TVs that won't reliably respond to the IR messages from the separate On and Off buttons, apparently because they are more sensitive to timing issues with the IR signal. The On and Off buttons send two codes, one right after the other: a code to the sat receiver and a code to the TV. That confuses some TVs.

Moving the selector over to the TV icon and pressing the single Power button works because that's only sending one code at a time.

Anyway, you might just use your old remote, since it already worked. Your new receiver likely came with some version of the RC64 remote, and your previous remote may have been an older model with slightly different timing that worked better with your TV. It will fully run the new receiver, at least in IR mode, so if controlling the TV power is really important to you, using the old remote might be the easist solution.

Many thanks for the feedback, the solution was easier than I thought. I got the old rc64 remote, and it works like a charm. Thanks again for the solution. Take care.
