wife and i will be returning to directv in about 60 days. newer townhouse and a mdu complex not worried at all about that. here is my question i currently own a dell dimision 4600 computer and approximately 6 1/2 years old currently. planning on replacing it after xmas with usual tax refund.
curently i have 756 kg of memory now planning on replacing it with 2 one gigs sticks of ddr 3200 memory and adding two more later on when my first retirement check arrived. also planning on adding a western digital 2TB external hard drive/USB 2.0/e SATA hard drive can this work and also will be possible to network 2 hard drive together also
I'm not sure I understand the question. How does this fit in with Directv?

It is only related to DirecTV because the OP plans to return. It also looks like the OP has only been to this forum and doesn't know about the other ones. His question should really be asked here.

my returning to directv was the issues i started off with directv when it was 6 weeks ago and left recently when getting pissed after having them hit my credit card several time for a doa receiver i returned weeks earlier
new building and is a mdu with directv as my source for my tv question was relating to using my computer
Here's hoping that DIRECTV doesn't turn you down.
For the computer question, you need to ask that in the Tech Talk forum that jdspencer linked to (or ask a moderator to move this thread for you).
It also helps if you break out different issues into different paragraphs so as not to confuse which comment applies to which issue.

You cannot save VOD on your computer. It has to be done on the DVR's local drive or an eSata drive hooked your DVR.

that is what i was trying to ask also can u network several esata drive together also
You can use a RAID enabled enclosure to combine several drives into one big drive for use with your DVR (the total size is NOT unlimited)
-or-
You can use a RAID enabled Network Attached Storage (NAS) device to provide more storage for your computer.
Either way, the DVR and the computer CANNOT share any storage.
I suspect that you're asking about DIRECTV2PC as opposed to VOD, but as dave29 points out, you cannot save DIRECTV content to a computer (nor can you practically save computer content to your DVR). The DIRECTV website says:A DIRECTV2PC-compliant computer must meet the minimum system recommendations, which are: Dual core CPU, 512 MB Ram, 256 MB Graphics, and Windows XP with Service Pack 2.The sticking points here for you are likely the dual core CPU and the relatively powerful display card. Your CPU is a single core Pentium 4. For Dimension 4600 models with on-board graphics, the shared display memory maximum is 64MB.
As I recommended in post #5, tell us exactly what you're trying to accomplish and let us figure out:
1. If it can be done
2. How it might be accomplished
