While currently out of site, this certainly bodes well for "large" capacity solid-state storage being readily available at reasonable prices......

True....I can still recall 2GB cards going for $79...and it wasn't all that long ago either...now I can get them for under 5 bucks all day long...:)
I just picked up an 8GB card for $18 on sale...so these will come down too once they're more in mass production and the demand picks up...

I seriously considered one of these this week as I'm replacing a couple of data drives, two 300gb for two 1tb drives. My drives will trickle down to the kids computers.
Yes, the price is steep for the largest capacity drives but I think the 60gb or 80gb was running in the $150 range. Not that I need to, but I wondered what the performance would be like using this for the OS drive.
I was at a database user conference a couple of years ago when they said the technology was scaling just about right to hit critical mass for business in the 2010-2011 timeframe. This sounds about right.
If I remember correctly, though performance was better than platters, the lack of moving parts moved the MTBF to the 200k-300k hour range (vs 60-100 now). That's REALLY impressive. Not sure if that's still the case.
Hmmm. Now you've got me really thinking about it again.
