Will an XM antenna attached to the edge of a DirecTV Slimline dish cause any issues with DirecTV reception? I'm concerned about the electronics in the XM antenna causing some sort of interference.

No, they are totally different frequencies. XM is around 2 GHZ, DirecTv is around 12GHz and higher.
Since they are both receiving antennas and not broadcasting antennas, there shouldn't be a problem even though the frequencies do indeed overlap some (the intermediate frequency of D* and the broadcast frequency of XM).

I would be very surprised if there were any problem. You won't hurt anything by trying it.

XM receiving antennas are "active". In other words, a small DC voltage (5v) is sent up the cable to the antenna. The antenna receives the 2.5 Ghz SDARS band signal and DOWNCONVERTS it to around 900MHz just like a DirecTV dish does. It is always possible when you have an oscillator/downconverter to emit signals which may interefere with other receiving antennas in close proximity.
Benny, Can you post a picture of what your trying to do ? I was thinking of moving my sat radio antenna.

Sorry, nothing accomplished yet but thinking about it. I have a pole mount slimline using 3 of the four connections. The installer pulled an extra cable that is now terminated at the grounding block. My current XM antenna is just a magnetic auto antenna attached to a piece of plywood covered with sheet metal (for the ground plane) attached to the soffit of the house. Problem is, there's a tree in the way and when it rains the XM signal goes away. With the extra cable at the satellite dish, the plan is to put an XM antenna at the base of the antenna, and tie into the unused cable. Then, I'll have a clear line of sight to the XM satellites.

I have a Sirius antenna attached to the mast of my D* dish. I have zero issues with signal on either.

I have a Dish 300, Dish 500, DirecTV Phase 3, XM antanna and Sirius antenna all up on my roof and all near each other and never had any problems when I was a satellite TV subscriber.
I did a install with the Slimline 5 and a Terk XM antenna that mounts directly to the feed arm...absolutely no issues at all.
Works out great. The Terk is made to go on the pole, but the Slimline pole is too big and it fit perfectly on the feed arm that holds the LNB...so I stuck it there and it hangs below the LNB.

I have recently ordered a Terk XM6 Outdoor XM Antenna along with a 50' extension with built-in amplifier. I'll have to try your installation method for me. Thanks!
I have a Trek XM-6 attached to slimline dish and Sirius 14210 to international dish. No problems.
