View Full Version : Any references for DirecTV installer Denver area

I had a movers connect Friday. The tech came and said I barely have no line of sight from balcony. About 20 mins after he left his supervisor called and asked if I wanted a second opinion. I did and rescheduled for today. Same tech came. I researched different mounts and mentioned something like this (http://www.solidsignal.com/prod_display.asp?prod=SLMTUE) attached to the railing if that would go out far enough he sort of indicated it would but said that wasnt up to quality standards. At this point I really don't care if signal isn't great or even if I have to put up a round dish instead of a slimline. Basically the issue is that my balcony faces west so north south is on each side. However I live on the fourth floor so I should be able to do this with the right mount. I'm not convinced this isn't possible - just not a standard installation.
Anyway, has anyone here dealt with a non-DirecTV installer in the Denver area? Or what is the best way to find one?

I can't reference anyone but do keep in mind that a dealer will have to charge you full labor since he won't get any compensation from D*.

I'm prepared to pay for it. It's unfortunte but its also good to hear that the quality standards are high. (just not in my situation)

Here are the pictures of my installation. Due to weight concerns we used a SL3 SWiM LNB with a phase III reflector (18x24). I have had reliable service so far (almost two weeks) although I do expect more rain fade than with the slimline. The extension is a little more than 4 feet long. I cannot say enough about how skilled and professional the tech I hired was. Here is a link to his website if anyone is interested. http://www.sossatelliteservice.com

Don't want to be a wet blanket on you getting service, but I don't see that surviving the winter. Hope I'm wrong.

Me too! We added a support to the bottom too. I have better quality pictures of the finished install but cannot add them here because they're about 1.8MB each.

That there is truely a "custom" install. :)
Unfortunately, you'll never be able to get DirecTV to service that; no DirecTV tech with a brain would touch it.

Adding a standoff brace near the corner of the building would help.
Looking forward to final pictures.:)

A dish heater would help as well both to keep weight off and to help reduce signal loss from the smaller reflector once snow sticks.

Here it is from the ground. Also note the zip tie is no longer in use. :)

Update: it drizzled all day and actually rained hard during the USC Ohio State game no pixeling or loss of service. I'm very impressed.
