According to this webpage, it says I can, but I've heard many people say it's not possible. Did they change their policies recently?

You have to subscribe to the core movie package in order to get the HD version for "free".
The $5.00 fee applies if your not already subscribing to one of the Americas Top Programming packages as well.

But it says 'You can purchase only HDTV channels,'; it doesn't say anything about having to purchase the movie packages.

You can't subscribe to JUST the HD channels at this time without buying the accompanying movie packages. You can get Discovery HD separately, and I don't know how they will handle the HDNet package whenever IT comes online but that is the status as of today's date.

Okay...let's put it this way.
YES you can subscribe to ONLY the HD movie channels. HBO HD is $13.99 a month and Showtime HD is $10.99 a month.
But wait! There's More!
With a subscription to HBO HD, you get ABSOLUTELY FREE, HBO (SD) e&w, HBO2 e&w, HBO Signature, HBO Family, HBO Comedy and HBO Latino.
With a subscription to Showtime HD, you get ABSOLUTELY FREE, Showtime (sd) e&w, Showtime Too, Showtime Showcase, Showtime Extreme, Showtime Beyond, The Movie Channel, The Movie Channel X-tra, Flix and Sundance.
What a deal!!!!

Dish also has the movie pack where you get all 4 sets of channels. If you prepay annual you get a month free. This way you will get Starz and Cinemax when they launch. Not to mention all those free SD channels that Tony mentioned above. You can just make a favorites list of the HD channels so you do not have to see the SD trash...

Don't you mean IF Dish carries these channels. And I guess I'll stick with just HBO for now.

Starz and E* have been pretty close for a long time. I would bet that Dish wants to pick it up when it is available. With the recent agreement with HBO/Cinemax I bet Dish will be quick to put it up too. Just depends on them getting a satellite at 105 soon.
