View Full Version : 1 DVR plus MRV - with international?
I'm almost certainly going to have to have a local reseller do the install, but here's the setup.
There will be one DVR in the living room and 3 or 4 additional receivers, all HD.
There is existing dual RG6 runs throughout the house from the garage.
There's one pair ran to a downstairs storage area (don't know why) and I'm planning on extending them out to a pole mount dish.
What's throwing me off is the international dish. Both dishes must be out of sight and I've got about 8' of horizontal space to a 8' hedge. Do you think I can install both dishes on the same pole and how tall would it need to be?
Second, what equipment will I need to have? Will two cables carry both my international and regular dish back into the house? If not I'm in trouble because I don't think I can get additional cable into the garage...

The Slimline mounts on a 2 in. OD pole, but I suspect that the International dish requires a smaller size. You need to run 4 cables from the slimline and one from the international (only the 95 LNB) to a WB-68 multiswitch. The normal and international channels will be combined in the multiswitch so you will only need two cables for the DVR and one for each of the other receivers.
Your other option would be to use a SWM8 single-wire multiswitch instead of the WB68. This can be used with one cable and splitters to feed multiple receivers. Directv installers normally do not supply SWMs so you would need to purchase one from a retailer or eBay.
Ok, so currently my limitation is the existing pair from under the house into the garage where the other cables end up. That being the case I think I'm best of with the SWM8 at the dish, connecting the international to the SWM8 also. I'm looking at 75' to the splice point, probably 120' to the garage where I'm thinking I need to install the 1x4 splitter and power supply (the power supply could go at the splice point if it needs to be closer, there is power down there...).
Based on what I read, this setup would require an amplifier as the total run length is over 200' from the dish to the longest point, garage being roughly half way. Sound right?
One more question about the international dish - is it possible to have it mounted on the same pole? It'll be a cemented in pole, I'm just wondering about how much vertical space I'll need to do this.

No, they can not be on the same pole.
The Slimline dish is 2" outer diameter. I believe the Worldirect dish is 1.75".
