:)After listening to the latest DirecTv conference call, I heard Larry Hunter say that some of the upcoming initiatives would include "live NFL games...launching a trial using our new broadband rights to deliver NFL games to non DirectTv subscribers in Manhattan."
I assume that's Manhattan, NY, but I guess it could be Manhattan, KS.
It sounds like it might be delivered like the internet access for SuperFan subscribers.
Anybody have any information on this initiative - cost? setup? I didn't see any discussion on this.
Thanks for any info.

There is no info on this at all. This capability was announced in the contract renewal with the NFL a few months ago but that was it. It was a surprise to hear they will actually trial it this fall. But other then these two mentions there have been no details or information on it.

This is not surprising, some people simply cannot subscribe to DTV, either due to signal issues, i.e. building or trees blocking signal, or legal issue where their landlord has signed an agreement to only allow the local cable co. as a provider. This lets DTV recoup some money, and allows the NFL to keeps it most rabid fans connected to the kool aid.

I would want to know where the Sunday Ticket Broadband Package be available to purchase from, would it be Direct TV or from NFL.com. Also would Dish Network subscribers be able to purchase this package since I am a Dish subscriber and knowing Charlie he will have a nice standoff with the NFL over the Red Zone Channel once it opens up to other providers.

As we've stated, there is zero information on this other then a mention in their quarterly call that there will be a trial this year in Manhattan only. Assuming that goes well then it may be available nationwide in 2010, but that is only speculation.

If it is cheaper than their NFLST I might just go for this option....

As a former Manhattanite, I am extremely intrigued at what DirecTV has to offer. It is not a stretch to say that more than 90% of residents in Manhattan can NOT get DirecTV for a multitude of reasons.
I grew up in Houston and am a Texans fan. Following my team up in NYC was a bear because I did not have very good choices. Often, I would be the lone guy in Texans gear shunted off to one non-HD set watching the game without sound in a sports bar. Being able to watch my Texans from home would have been amazing.

Nice find!
That's a lot more expensive then I thought it would be for just being delivered over the computer.
Looks like it's just the same Supercast program that you get if you sub to Sunday Ticket/Superfan.

but for about $40 you can get all the games from NFL.com's website, just not live. They'll be showing them "within 24 hours"
personally, I can't wait that long, but if money were an issue, that's a nice backup plan.

It was from a handful of news articles. I think some of them assumed it would be much sooner than 24 hours (like perhaps that night)
If you were one of those guys who worked on Sundays and missed games anyway, that would be a pretty good option.
(Or if you had enough self control to avoid looking at the scores)
if you google "24 hours" and game rewind, you'll find a bunch of stuff.
interestingly, there isn't a lot of info on nfl.coms website.

You'd think they'd try to market it a bit better.
40 bucks compared to the $300 or so for sunday ticket could get a lot of subscriptions in this economy.
As said in the other thread, this price point is ridiculous, for a lesser product (HDTV >>>>>>> anything streamed). Would D* reimburse a customer if their ISP blocked this, citing bandwidth problems?

I live in Manhattan (actually Brooklyn) and have seen the billboards everywhere this week. As someone who recently moved and could not take my DirecTV service with me, this is very enticing.
How come there is no documentation on the resolution, bitrate, and aspect ratio of the streamed video? I remember testing it out on my Mac last year but that was just on a laptop and I had a 42" HDTV that I was really watching. I would like to know if I setup a HTPC type deal and run the Supercast at full screen if it will be decent quality.
Does anyone have better info on the specs? I would imagine at the very least it is 640x480, 4:3, 3.5Mbps but I would hope that for $349 they would offer it 1280x720, 16:9 video.

Bump.
Anyone get better specifics on this program yet? I am strongly leaning toward going to the bar for the whole season, but I am on my wedding diet and don't need the extra beer and wings! I would much prefer to give DirecTV more of my money!
Can anyone please find out the stream specs? Or if I order it and try it week 1, can I cancel no penalty if it sucks?
