View Full Version : Which of these do you subscribe to? (Expanded Edition)
As an offshoot of this poll (http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=162740), please indicate which monthly or seasonal packages you subscribe to.
DIRECTV mentioned in their conference call (http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?p=2177297#post2177297)that 92% of their subscribers have premiums, and their web site lists the following under the [Premium] menu on the home page:
HBO
SHOWTIME UNLIMITED
Starz Super Pack
Cinemax
Sports Pack
Adult
Game Lounge
BabyFirst TV
HD Extra Pack
I've now added the subscription packages listed under the [Sports] menu:
NFL SUNDAY TICKET
NASCAR HotPass Please don't vote for this - now available to all customers free (Will ask moderators to remove from poll)
ESPN GamePlan
ESPN FULL COURT
MLB EXTRA INNINGS
NBA League Pass
NHL CENTER ICE
MLS Direct Kick
CricketTicket
Setanta Sports
NCAA MEGA MARCH MADNESS
I only listed the Sports Pack once, even though it's on both menus, and excluded Golf, Tennis, UFC and ECW as they are not subscriptions.
Which of these do you have? I'm curious what the most popular premium package is ... my suspicion is it will be the Sports Pack, but it very well could be HBO.
I'm pretty sure the most popular sports package will be NFL Sunday Ticket, but the Sports Pack itself could be the most popular sports package.
Now when we combine the Sports plus Premiums, will we approach DIRECTV's "92%"?
Multiple choice poll - click all that apply.
For the purposes of this poll, only choose Adult if you pay a recurring fee for a monthly package, not if you just do occasional PPV.
I did not list the Premier Package as an option - if you subscribe to Premium, select HBO, Showtime, Starz, Cinemax, and Sports Pack individually.
Also, I specifically left off an option for "Other", as I'm going strictly by what's on the DIRECTV home page [Premium] and [Sports] menus.

HBO, Showtime, Sports pack, NFL Sunday Ticket, NBA League Pass (for now). Starz as loyalty reward (1yr) didn't select that. ;)
I would remove Nascar. Everyone gets it now with the right base package.I'll ask a moderator to remove it from the poll, as the DIRECTV page shows it's free without an additional subscription.

Still none of the above.
It's early, but the no premiums percent is pretty close to the DirecTV number now. Let's see if that holds up.

Subscribed for the first time this past season, loved it, so I'll probably keep getting it.

not a regular subscriber, just get it free for 3 months occasionally, so I didn't vote for it in the poll.

Wasn't quite sure how to answer.
I had NFLST last year, but won't this year.
I had Mega March madness this year, but probably won't again.
At various times, I have HBO, Showtime and Cinemax, but usually it's only about 6 months total time for each one.
I selected all of those in the poll.

I used to get ESPN Gameplan but it din't Auto renew this year and I'm not calling in about it, I had the same problem lastyear and told them if it didn't auto renew it would remain off
I have HD Extra only because it is free for 3 months....

Voted "none".
The only premium I have is Showtime. But I technically don't "subscribe" to it, it was added as a "free gift" for loyal customers.
I would assume that they would include me as a customer who "has" premium channels, although I really don't subscribe (or pay) for any.

At the moment the count is 82.81% having a premium, so while still below DIRECTV's 92%, our number may actually be slightly higher if those with no premiums but free/trial offers are included in the poll...
By the way, 194 voters ... and no one for CricketTicket! :eek2:

I think we see why Direct made a few HD channels part of a separate package. There are definitely a large percentage of subs (at least on here) that are willing to pay the extra money.
It is surprising that more than half of the respondents (56%) have the HD Extra Pack...
Looking at the results, I'm wondering if folks know that HD Extra Pack is for HD-Net movies, MGM, etc., and is not the HD Access Fee required to see any HD channel?

That could very well be the case. I do find it surprising that even 50% of the respondents on a tech site have the HD extra pack.
I have the HD extra pack, and I know the difference between having HD, and subscribing to the HD Extra pack.
I have a problem with this poll. As a multiple choice poll, and a private poll, there is actually no way to determine what percentage of subscribers (taking the poll) do not have any premium/sports subscriptions. The indicated 17.93% is the percentage of all responses, not the percentage of subscribers. Each subscriber who has checked more than one premium item is skewing the results with regard to determining an accurate percentage of subscribers who do not subscribe to anything.

HD Extra, and for now, free Showtime from an anniversary gift.
Showtime, HD Extra Pack (although I dont know why as there is never anything on them) & NFL Sunday Ticket.
I have Starz and Hd Extra pack-however not very long. Am pretty much done with premiums after this month. Encore Westerns have been a disappointment no new old shows-HD Extra pack is not worth it too me-Smithsonian is disappointing showing same programming.
HBO, Showtime, Starz, Cinemax, Sports, HD Extra, NFL ST, NBA League Pass, Setanta
Premier, plus NFL ST, MLB EI and HD Extra Pack.
Obviously get Sports Pack, movies channels, etc.....
Interesting results on HD Extra Pack so far, as plenty of individuals did not like the extra $$ and complained, yet 55% of poll so far has it.......

When it's a multiple choice poll, each response is treated as an independent stat out of the grand total of voters, so if you add up each percent on each row, the total will be over 100%, unlike polls that permit only one choice where the totals will be 100%.
In this case, if a user picks "None of the Above", the stat of 17% reflects the count of 53/297, and on their honor they should not have selected any other option. Even if they did pick another option, it doesn't matter, as the important stat for determining who subscribes is the "None of the Above" count. 100% - 17% = 83%, so that is the approximate percentage of poll takers who subscribe to a "premium", if premiums are defined as being any of the "Premium" or "Sports" subscriptions named in the poll.

That's a bummer. I'd trade if I could, since we have had little time to watch a PPV, since the recordings go stale (get expunged) after a while, is it 24 hours?, we never order anything. In your case you can at least record something and see it six months from now. :D

Would subbing for 1 month out of a year count? This poll stemmed from comments made by DIRECTV at their recent financial call that they had 92% of their customers subscribed to premium channels, so since that was the Q3 call, I'd say if you had it in the last three months, you were likely counted by DIRECTV so feel free to vote here... :)

We got Playboy on the 17th or so of last month, so I chose that. When the 30 days is up we are going to cancel.
I get the HD Extra Pack for free, and will not renew it to pay for it. Didn't choose it.

Drew this poll still indicates that dbstalk members are over twice the DirecTV average for not having a premium. Is the forum membership that different from the overall DirecTV subscriber base or are we just not counting the way they do?

None. Been with D* since 1995, only "premium" that we ever had was HD Extra Pack last summer to watch the additional Olympics coverage. I expect that I'll sign up for it again in 2010 if it's needed for additional HD channels of the winter Olympics.

Drew this poll still indicates that dbstalk members are over twice the DirecTV average for not having a premium. Is the forum membership that different from the overall DirecTV subscriber base or are we just not counting the way they do?I'm wondering if they count purchases of adult programming blocks as premiums? You got me ... I can't figure out what else there could be that would constitute a premium, and for sure I thought we had a really good cross-section of the DIRECTV customer base here and would be truly representative at least on the programming and package subscription side of things...
Haha, I didn't realize how that looked until your post.
