View Full Version : "Errors found on both tuners"
I have a brand new install. When going through the satellite setup, I get the "Errors found on both tuners" message.
I'm getting this on two different receivers (connecting them one at a time to the same two satellite cables coming from the dish)
Most of the times it looks like in image02, but once it looked like image13 (see below). Last night IIRC, the 99 and the 101 had trouble, but I didn't think to take a picture, so I'm not very certain about last night's errors.
What would you suggest I try next?
Thanks!

LNB or MS issue would be my guess. Unless you have a SWM and there's a splitter issue. I doubt you have to connections bad and 2 different cables damaged but you can check for that as well.

Show us signal strength for 103c.
103 c Signal Strengths seem to be in the high 80's. Images below for both tuners.
Thanks.

Does it pass the test now?
YOu might have had a single or couple txp's just below 80 and hence the X.
No, it still doesn't pass the test. I've restarted the HR23 receiver and the signal strengths are still about the same, but it still doesn't pass the test.
The installer who was here on Wednesday had a HR21 and it behaved similarly as well. He had an installer friend present too, and both were pretty nonplussed and had no thoughts other than trying out the HR23 if/when it came. They rechecked the dish pointing a couple of times too.
As far as I can tell, I'm getting a decent picture. Are there any specific channels to check? I only get 480, 481, 490 and 491 test channels (I thought there were more when we had the SD Tivo DVR) and they all display.
Thanks.

The test are odd and sometimes fail with perfect signal.
I'd wait and see if your problems of last night recur and then post again.

I assumed you were having picture issues not just failing the self test.
This issue comes up once in awhile for people. It's never all models and varies on situation. I would say if you start to see signal issues I'd check there first.

First, start by updating the receiver to the latest software:
Press the red reset button behind the access card door (lower-right side of the receiver).
When the first blue "Welcome..." screen comes up, type "02468" on the keypad of the remote. This should force a software download.
Once you've got the latest software, I bet the error will go away.
Installers are required to update the software on all receivers before activating, but no one tells customers to do this. Of course, most receivers will update themselves within 10-20 minutes of being connected to a sat signal.
Sorry, should have also mentioned I did the upgrade and two reboots after that also.
Are there any known "problem" or "hard to get" channels that I can check?
Thanks.
Your TP levels are 'fine' they are just a 'little' 1-2 points below the standards set for installers to be able to get a rcvr to activate.
the IV is a bit of software that's been forced on us by the hacks out there that get a dish up, and fire off the rcvrs and run before the whole house of cards comes tumbling down.
Since you have the continue option, go with it and just enjoy your system. you have another 30-40 points before you start having issues.
