I am thinking about switching my installation to SWM. It would be very nice to only have 1 cable coming in off my roof to try to hide. I already know about the SWM LNB issue with cold weather. Since I live in a cold area I'm going to use the SWM box. Are there any other issues I need to be aware of? I don't want to do this if it is something that will cause me problems, but if it's a fairly reliable technology then I'm all for it.

I believe the cold SWM LNB issue has been resolved, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. I assume you have all SWM compatible receivers?

This one is a little amiguous, so it depends on what you're going for here. If you want the "clean" look of one cable from dish into the house SWMLnb would be the way to go (providing you do not need more than 8 SWM tuners and have no legacy equipment.) If you want to go with the SWM8 you would still have 4 cables from the dish to the SWM module. You can locate the SWM8 outside near the dish, but I would not recommend mounting it to the roof. I'd probably just place the SWM8 wherever your current multiswitch or connection junction is located. I only have second-hand knowledge of SWMLnb, but the cold weather issue seems to be solved from what I've heard. I have a SWM8 and it works like a champ!

P.S. D* in no way shape or form will support SWM8 in a residential setting, so using one puts you squarely in support it yourself territory!

Yeah I've got 2 HD DVR's. One is a HR 20-100 and the other is a HR 21-100, so they are both SWM compatible.

Could someone confirm for me that they definitely have the SWM LnB cold issues solved? I would hate to get it installed and then have my satellite go out on me this winter.

Here's an old thread concerning this.
