I currently have a residential swm setup that comes into my house then into a box that is plugged into the wall and finally goes out to a 4 port cable splitter (with one input.)
I currently have 3 hr22's and want to add two receivers downstairs. What equipment would I need to accomplish that?
Thanks!
Since the SWMLNB can support a max of 8 tuners you have six now so if the other two receivers are not DVR's all you need is to replace the existing splitter like the 1x8 shown http://www.weaknees.com/swm-directv.php or any other combination that gets you want you need, just remember no more then 8 tuners (DVR's are 2 tuners).

Keep in mind you may add two additional DVR's if you'd like, but you will need to disable the secondary tuner on two of your boxes to remain at the SWMLnb limit of 8. In any case whether adding DVR's or plain receiver's purchase a 1X8 switch going forward.
If the new equipment will only require two tuners you can run a coax from the open port on the existing splitter to the general location of the new equipment. Add a 2-way splitter to that coax and then coax from the 2-way to each of the new receivers.
If the new equipment are DVRs and you want full functionality for each (ie use both tuners in each) then you will need to add a second SWM dish.

I'm just adding two receivers. My parents have a couple of directivos... Any chance those work on this system? I'd only have one tuner active on them.
Thanks

Short answer, nope. Those receivers are what DirecTV calls legacy receivers and aren't compatible with the SWMLNB, the SD DVR's that you can use with it is the R16 and the R22.
Now if you went and installed your own SWM8 module (and it's not the SWMLNB) then the SWM8 has three legacy ports on it for connecting old boxes like that.

If you want to add the Directivos then your only answers are to revert to a legacy setup or switch to SWM8. You would also need to replace your SWMlnb with a standard lnb to utilize a SWM8.

Awesome... thanks for the information!

If you switch to a 1X8 splitter, any unused outputs should be terminated.
