Hello all I've been a lurker from time to time and finally have a question.

It looks like i will be going back to Directv now that i am moving. I'm using uverse now and it absolutely hate it. Right before i switched over last year i was looking at the HR 21 PRO and was wondering if this is still a good receiver compared to the HR 22/23 that are out now. The main reason was 1080p for the 21 pro, but if i understand right the 23 offers this now also with networking. Am i correct on this.
Regardless, what are the biggest differences between the 21 PRO and the 22 and 23.

Thanks

I think you'll be happier with the HR22 or HR23. With either, you'll get 1080p support and 100 hours of programming. Also, the HR22/HR23 are primarily leased receivers which means in the case of hardware issues, you'll pay a lot less for a replacement.

The HR21-Pro was DIRECTV's attempt to create a rack-mountable HR2x-series DVR. It is essentially identical to the HR21-200 with a different case, additional fans, and additional options for Optical HDMI and serial control. If these features don't appeal to you, go for a much less expensive HR22 or HR23.

To expand, all the HR2X and H21/H23 STB's support 1080p, just that there's nothing for the H21/H23's yet to display in 1080p.

OK then i guess it boils down to the networking capabilities. I'm guessing that the 21 pro does not have this. I do prefer rack mountable but it's not a dealbreaker if i get the 22 or 23. If they both have networking, then i would prefer the 21 pro. As far as networking is concerned, does it work well, I have vista ultimate and XP pro 64 bit on the same machine, hand built and pretty high end hardware.

Thanks

Get the HR23. You will see that there a whole lot less complaints about the HR23 as opposed to the HR22
