Hi- I saw an old thread on here, and got some information on this question. We have a single dish (Dish Network), and the LNB reads LNBF. We've moved away from DISH, and a friend loaned us their spare DirecTV receiver. On that receiver, which was in use in the same town, the elevation was 49 and azimuth 149. We've moved our Dish satellite dish to those settings, we think. But no signal strength. Are we out of luck using this satellite dish for DirecTV? Thanks, all help is much appreciated, we are newbies.

At one point, just after we'd changed the elevation to 49 from 60, but before we moved the azimuth, we had signal strength of 83 on three of the 32 transponders.

I think some older dishes were interchangeable, but the current crop are specific to the provider. DIRECTV will generally provide a new dish free of charge to new customers.

Signal on 3 of the 32 transponders sometimes indicates that you are pointing at the satellite at 110 instead of the required 101. Which would require you to move your azimuth approx. 9 degrees to the "left" (as you stand behind the dish). I can't answer your question about the compatibility of that dish though.

Since you did see signals from 3 of 32 TPs, I'll assume that the LNB is compatible with DirecTV. Once you reaim to 101, you will only get the SD channels from that sat. You will also need an active DirecTV account.

Are you looking to subscribe to Directv? Because they will come out and do the install for basically free. If you are just trying to use a friend/neighbor's spare receiver thats kind of not legal. If thats not the case I apologize for the misconception.
