I canceled DirecTV on the 6th of August (no, this isn't one of those threads, I promise). When I called, I was told by the rep that I still had a commitment and I followed the advice in a previous thread (http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=161581) in telling her that I shouldn't have been under commitment. The receiver was changed to owned--and reflects as such on my online account--and I was told that the commitment had been removed. I asked to cancel and this was done. When I looked at my bill later that day it showed just owing about $80. Now I look and it says I owe $360, including a $260 ETF and $20 in tax on that ETF.

How hard am I going to have to yell to get this removed? I plan on calling DirecTV tomorrow but I want some advance knowledge before blithely dealing with whomever answers the phone.

Thanks for the help, and the years of satellite talk here. :D

I would not even call anymore at this point. I would do an e-mail to ellen.filipiak@directv.com (I think there's two L's in Fillipiak?). Explain consisely the circumstance that resulted in the errorneous commitment and why there should not have been one and that you were charged an ETF.

I think that's your best bet at this point.

I agree. Email her. I had this issue with I cancelled last year. I was given the same cancel price by 2 reps and when i cancelled and got the bill I was given a different amount. I raised hell for a week before someone with power changed it to the correct amount

I'm pretty sure it's one L.

If this was charged to your credit card as soon as you get a statement report it as a fraudulent overcharge to that company. You'll have to give them detailed information so keep your records and make a log of all communications on the matter with DirecTV.

Fortunately the "saved" credit card online is long since dead and I don't think they were collecting credit card numbers when I signed up 9 years ago.

I will e-mail and post here once I have a result. Thanks for the advice!
