Hi. I was just wondering if you have this problem with directv? I have time warner cable, and have had nothing but problems with it since going to hd. I have been experiencing a lot of pixelating on show with more movements and sports. I had a suppose to be top technicians from time warner cable came yesterday to look at all our problems, what a joke. He told the pixelating that am experiencing is just a little picture interference and am going to experience that, after her sat there and thought about it awhile. He claimed he gets it to. But is not just a minor little picture problem what it does it all the time on certain shows. Then on the freezing and flickering problems he told me that it could be the line but the line says the signal is great but it could be, but since it says not it is okay. So he is going to blog it for a couple of days and get back to me. He did absolutely nothing while hear. He did keep saying well it is cable so, well it is cable so. This is a third different technician I have had out here to look at it. I thought hd is suppose to be clear. Does this happen on directv?

When you have a D* system that is installed up to spec with a perfectly aligned dish you shouldn't have continuously occurring breakups and pixelation.
Yes, you might see short outages in heavy inclement weather though, no sense in denying that.

I get a lot of similar complaints when I am switching cable customers to D*.
If you want to stick to cable demand that both the wiring from the demarc/ground block to the IRD is replace and the drop from the pole to the demarc is replaced.
I have about every cable tech refused to do that even though a lot of times that will be the issue.

It isn't uncommon for cable systems to have bad areas where signal strength is low. That can happen due to bad or damaged lines, improper connections allowing signal egress, improper amplification, and so on. But if you're in one of those areas, you'll have pixalization on digital signals until the root cause is resolved. But fixing it can be very expensive, and needs to be done at higher levels than the tech that wires up your house, so it often isn't addressed.

Many cable companies are using fiber optic distribution to get their signals into the neighborhood, and copper from there. This reduces the problem because there's less copper to cross.

But with a satellite system, you have the entire system on/in your house, so you are in complete control of the signal. And while severe weather *can* cause drop-outs, that's normally the exception, and those dropouts tend to be short and signal is restored when the weather passes. Still, the quality of the installation can make a difference. In a house, where the dish can be mounted on the home and lines ran as needed, it isn't hard to do it right. In an apartment or other area where additional restrictions are invovled, custom work or parts, payable to the tech upon completion of the install, may be necessary to get a quality install. And all installs will need a clear line-of-site from the dish to the sats.

Thanks for your responses. I am just tired of getting the runaround for the cable company, been going on for two months now. I am just waiting for the baseball season to end because of I have mlb extra innings, and then I am switching to directv. Thanks

When I had TW cable and HD first came out, I had a pixelation or macroblocking problem. After several calls, a line specialist came out and changed out something in the main connection box in my backyard. After he did that, I rarely ever had any macroblocking. So if you keep cable, you have to keep complaining or email the FCC.

With D*, the only issue you might have is what subscribers call brrrrppp. Don't know if its the feed from the network or a D* issue, but here's what happens. The sound track is replaced by a sound like brrrppp and after a second its back to normal. Kind of annoying when it happens.

Okay thanks, I will say something to the tech, he is suppose to call back today, if he does. What does brrrppp mean exactly. I dont get that, and hadnt heard of that before from anyone. Thanks

Your story sounds suspiciously familiar to mine... I had Comcast for about a year when I bought my new house because I couldn't get line of sight for DirecTV. I had about two dozen visits from technicians, most of them "top dogs" and supervisors. We had the receivers swapped a half dozen times, the line from the street to the house replaced twice and every line in the house and some piece of equipment down the road all replaced. I had sweaty Comcast techs sitting on my couch next to me watching recordings I had made of the horrible pixelations and waiting for a live one to happen while a tech in the van down the road watched some meter to see it happen live. They saw it. They had no clue how to fix it. It happened at least 3-5 times an hour and rendered my TV unwatchable.

I love my DirecTV.

I haven't seen pixelation. A few storms rolled through my area and once it went out for about 5 minutes and came back full swing for the remainder of the storm. I have been very impressed cause some of my buddies that are on Dish and havent changed over are constantly telling me regarding this issue and I had assumed (prior to signing up for Directv) that this would be an issue with sat tv. My HOA provides free basic Comcast so if ever the storm is big enough to knock out the signal I least i have it and I also am recording plenty on my DVR now that a Tropical Depression is out there and could be headed this way. (sorry to get off topic.) But I had constant issues with Comcast HD which I had for awhile and assumed it was normal (as was told by all the techs that ever came out to my home.)

Watch CNN or Foxnews or Discovery or A&E or SyFy or Spike and you'll see some picture and sound breakup from time to time not pixilation but picture and audio breakups from time to time.It seems to be on Directvs end with encoder problems.

He said pixilation and that's what I answered.

I am seeing encoder issues a lot more recently, anyone else noticing this?

The exact reason I spent hours trying to figure out how to get DirecTV installed in my apartment.

Cox Cable here in Northern VA had HD that made me go watch a standard def set because there was so much pixelation.

Thankfully I got my D* and have crystal clear picture again.
