Bummer... I thought that DirecTV had FINALLY moved NHL Network to the basic (Choice) package. :(

No Free Preview for International customers. Thats what the CSR told me when I called to see why no Free Preview for me. They stated only for "general" customers, which was the term she used. My "Preferred Choice @$35.99" and $25.99 Filipino packages disqualified me.

At least this won't affect us when the Premium Movie Channels are in Free Preview. They are available to all, in Free Preview weeks.

I have Preferred Choice, and I'm getting the free preview. It's just a convoluted collection of extra channels that are being received. I believe it's only the channels that are different between the Choice and Choice Xtra packages. For example, my kids have been watching Boomerang for the past couple of days, and that isn't normally included in the Preferred Choice package. I'm also getting Sprout, ESPN Classic, WGN, and a few others I don't normally get.

I was told that I can not get all of the channels in the freeview because I am a lowly Family Package customer, so no NFL Network which I was looking forward to this week. Oh well.

Just out of curiosity, have you checked to see if you are getting any channels that you normally wouldn't get? Like I said in the last post, I suspect that the channels that are on the free preview are the ones that are different between the Choice and Choice Xtra packages. What all of those channels are, I don't exactly know, but I've found several channels that I am now getting that I normally wouldn't.

I am getting some that are not part of my normal package but just about every one I would have been interested in seeing during the freeview I am blocked from. If they are offering a freeview to promote the package why not let us all enjoy them.

I believe the idea of the preview is to entice Choice package customers (who, I'm sure, make up a huge percentage of DirecTV's customers) to upgrade to Choice Xtra. I'm sure international and Family package customers are just an afterthought at best.

The purpose of a Free Preview is to get the lower packages to upgrade from a lower priced package. Money is money with Direct, not an afterthought.

True, but I doubt if international and Family package customers make up enough of a percentage of their customers to have to re-work the free preview for their advantage. And I suppose DirecTV might consider that people have those packages for a specific reason already, whereas Choice package customers probably just have that as a default situation.
