I've acquired a SWM system (the AU9-SL3-SWM dish, an SWS-8 splitter, a PI-21, an ASL-1 and SD and HD DVRs, (both SWM compatible) for my new RV. The SD DVR and SD flat panel operate in the RV and outside, hence my need for the 8-way splitter. Effectively, I'm wiring for 6 tuners. I'll be wiring the trailer after taking delivery this weekend.

I think I understand most of what I need to know about the SWM system, except whether the ASL-1 must have the power inverter connected directly to it while I'm using the ASL-1 with my meter to get the readings from 101. When the system is operating, I'll have the inverter adjacent to the splitter in a closet. Can I leave the inverter there and run the RG-6 line to the ASL-1 for power, or does this connect the receivers, even if they are unplugged? As I'll need to use the meter each time I set up the dish, I'd prefer not to take the power inverter from its normal place and carry fifty feet of extension cord with me.

Everything can be connected except the power for the receivers. Your power inserter will be fine in the cabinet with the sws8 in line. You should disconnect power when screwing F connectors, unless there are spare inserters.

Thanks for the guidance. Installation this weekend should be pretty easy. On page 44 of Directv's instructional material (http://forums.directv.com/pe/RepositoryFileDownloadServlet/10396641/SWM%20-%20In), the PI is clearly upstream from the splitter with the ASL-1 at the LNB. I should have looked more closely at that before posting :sure::contract:
