View Full Version : Looking to get HD
I think it might be time to upgrade to HD, or at least get an HD box.
First question is what is the satellite used to receive HD channels in Nebraska?
Second, is it possible to get Dish to give us a DUO DVR 722 so that we can pick up HD channels in local and record them also, upgrading to HD channels in the future?
If they wont, how could I go about getting that receiver? Would they require the subscription?

For Nebraska, plan on the 129, so you'd get a 1000.2 dish.
Also, you'd probably get a 722 anyway, but plan on paying up to $200 for it. You'd have to call or chat to get the actual amount, but worst-case is $200 with a commitment.
In my case, there was a tree which blocked the 129 satellite, so the installer put up a wing dish to point at 61.5. Apparently the 129 satellite is lower in the sky (44 deg maybe) so it was below the tree line at my house.
You may want to check the dishin it up promotion on Dish's website. I think they will install an HD DVR for no charge, but I forgot which model. You may want to call Dish to see what your options are. I did not get the HD DVR since I already have a 522 and right now my HDTV is not our main TV. I got the Vip 211k instead.

I just upgraded from a 322 to a VIP 222K. They wanted me to pay $150 for the upgrade which included the new rcvr which would be installed by their installer. I told them I had lots of free alternatives (Fios, Comcast, Broadstripe, DirecTV) and got them to upgrade me for free. I was on the western arc with service via a Superdish from the 110 and 119 orbital positions. But Baltimore HD locals are on the eastern arc - 61.5. They told me that they might add a wing dish to pick up 61.5. But the installer decided he would pull down my Superdish and replaced it with a much smaller 1000.4 pointing to eastern arc. I too have a tree-line issue to eastern arc but EA birds appear much higher (44 degrees) vs. WA (20+ degrees). So we are able to "see" over the trees because of the much higher elevation angle with EA as compared with the WA.
