My friend is an old primestar customer with just the 101 dish and I believe gets free service calls because of it. She called last night and told directv that her lnb is cracked and there is water in it. (i pointed this out as her likely problem with storm issues)

She told them when there are storms in the area they lose signal for a long time and the guy asked her if signal comes back after the storms leave. She said yes but takes a while. He kept saying he would make all these notes in her account but since the picture comes back, he wont do anything else about it. he seemed to keep repeating that he would make notes and that's what he was fixated on.

Now i know storms do cause issues and maybe the dish isnt aligned all that well ( i forgot to check signal levels) but when you have something physical wrong like you can see water in the LNB cover shouldnt that be replaced?

You can see the water but he couldn't see it over the phone so he followed the procedure he was instructed to follow. I would suggest making several follow up calls till you get a service call scheduled.:)

Uh.

Yes.

LNBs arn't shipped filled with water, so having water in them is bad.

The CSR needs some more classroom time.

just out of curiosity, what do your fair weather signal strengths look like?

In the mean time, superglue the crack in the white plastic cover, and the water wont get in there. Superglue wont affect the signal.

Even easier than super glue, pop the whole lens cap off, drain said water and throw an old milk jug (clear kind not yellow) with the top cut off so it sets upside down over top of the whole lnb, will work fine till you get someone out.
